a good game, my first with 2nd ed. EA wins pretty easily in the end, but i'm really impressed with the Var'Nic and our new enery mines. same old story though, loads of hits, no criticals! got really ugly when the Omega and the Nova closed.

The Narn ships look great 8) ..The var'Nic is a great ship now, a lot more useful, not so sure bout the Ka'Tan's nowadays, I would of taken standard ka'Tan's or Thentus'

I like all your Narn, but would like to echo the comment on the Frazi. Serious respect for managing anything with those tiny little buggers

Hi,
nice pics and they look even better up close.

It was a great game and introduction to 2nd Ed. EA won in the end but lost the Nova and all the other ships were heavily damaged. In the end all the EA ships had closed blast doors and were picking the Narns to bits with the battle laser.

Looking forward to the next one.

I have to say those are some fantastic looking ships - any hints on special techniques used or was it just a steady hand and a fresh brush?

pretty much i suppose.

the matal areas are black drybrushed gunmetal, a watered down black matt wash then another quick lighter drybrush of gunmetal and finally a very light drybrush of chainmail.

i painted the pattered areas khaki first as i think it looks good between the black and red bits and it gives a good base coat for the blood red, it looks a little bit orange which is what i was looking for. i painted the black pattern onto the khaki first then filled in the red/orange bits leaving a small gap. it's a little bit more time consuming but i think the results are worth it. i highlighted the the khaki with bonewhite the black with a cold grey/black mix and the red with a mix of hot orange and orange fire.

i used mostly Vallejo Game Colour and Winsor Newton series 7 brushes. (both sound investments IMO)

hope this is usefull.

Cheers - I'm just about to start painting my Narn in a white/cream main colour with black segments edged by yellow. Anything to keep them looking good :)

do you think yellow will work? i'm not soe sure it'll stand out enough beside the cream.

i'd be tempted to try something like orange or red, it's the same colours as the original fleet but it'll still look really different.

put up some pics when your done. 8)

How do you people paint so well so fast, I work for days on and off to get them looking nice. If I could only speed up and keep the quality then I might be able to actually finish off an army/project every now and then.

It comes down to practice.
I'm not as fast as some of my friends, but I can paint to a reasonable standard.
One of my friends did nothing but paint miniatures for five years and is so fast and so good that you wouldn't belive it.

All in all, try to get it to look good, not to do it fast, the speed will come with practice.

Drink heavily, and put on an appropriate DVD to watch while painting.

Petrovski: I don't really paint that fast, there's a good few hours work in those ships.

David: i agree with your comments on the table, it was a rush job to gat a game played and i've never bothered my ass to finish it. i intend to try to get some white dots it and some coloured spray paint for a more "space" feel. i've also got some blue foam to make some asteroids and i'll be visiting an art store for one of those foam balls for a planet.

thanks everyone!

Our local game store has green tables so we go the black felt route. I appreciate the really sharp detail on the ships. I never get mine to look so nice as yours. What did you use as a base coat on the ships?

GW black spray

the orange bit's need a cream/white undercoat on top of the black thoughbut it's worth it. i allways use black, it does your shading for you! :D

Interesting. I use a white primer with a coat of flourescent orange. The final ink wash damps down the brightness just right.
Regards,

I also use a black primer for almost all of my mini-painting.
But then, I do a lot of work in black and blood-red...
