My take on the Nighthawks

BuShips

Cosmic Mongoose
Although camouflage seems outdated in a future where the Arachnids can smell you coming, old human traditions sometimes die as hard as the Mobile Infantry troopers themselves.

Here is how I finished two MI Nighthawks, picking a desert scheme for a change from my typical "Olive Drab" green. The first photo shows them for contrast purposes sitting on a jungle board.

The next photo shows them in a more logical desert-themed environment.

For the last photo, I showed them sitting on their bases. For all of my Marauders so far (six at last count with more to do), I've made the bases so that strong magnets are glued underneath them. By sneaking in very small bits of sheet metal underneath the "feet" of the rigs, I can use the bases (or not) as I see fit.

After priming, I base-coated the models using Krylon Fusion (#2438 Satin Khaki). For the random "diffusion lines" I used Cel-Vinyl (#30 Gray & #10 Grayed Orange Yellow). I brushed it on with a single-ought detail brush. For the "flood lamps" I used Testors Zinc Chromate (#1184).

A touch of Testors Silver (#1146) added to the sensor probe and the six-gun was a nice difference to the khaki. Since the gun was all silver, I decided to paint over some of the gun with Cel-Vinyl Cool Gray.

I washed the models after sealing them with diluted black artist ink, in order to weather them down a bit. I did the same for the window glazing, taking them away from a "factory finish" window glaze.

Next, I need to begin on my two Bigfoot models. I'll probably synchronize their finish with the Nighthawks, because at least to humans the color matters.

Excellent! Makes me want to put my Nighthawk together now. :D

I love your idea of magnetic base attachment. We were discussing whether to base Marauders or not at our last game.

I used to think the chickenhawk and nighthawk were kinda ugly, until I put mine together and started painting them.

I now prefer them over an Ape.

people change
at least I do ; )

quite nice, now you just need some desert troopers to go with them.

Perhaps a local AA garison protecting the skies of a local but important suburb/camp

You can get away with using up to a 3/8" (or about 9.5mm) magnet thickness. For the metal, I use window "glazing points" and snip off even smaller parts from those.

Yeah, well these guys were all that was left of the MI patrol force. One of the CAP troopers was talking about how many kids they were going to have after their service was up and then BAM, before you knew it all of the MI that were not in Marauder rigs were dragged down a Bug Hole. Go figure.

The only thing heard over the comm net after that were these two trudging back to base and one heard saying "I'm just glad that I was promoted to Marauder duty last week. Sheesh".
