My Journey as a Mongoose customer

Mongoose
Okay I have to report back you folks. I said I would make a big post last week but work got crazy so I couldn't post about my experience with Mongoose. So after 3 month waits tons of unfulfilled dead lines and no responses to emails I got thorough to Matthew at Mongoose about my rulebook that was 3 months late and he kindly stated that he would send me something extra for my trouble and my book arrived and I got nothing extra no big deal but disappointing non the less. I contacted Matthew about this and he said he would see to it personally and I waited 3 weeks got nothing and then I contacted him again this time he said email me back if you don't have something in a week.

That next week I received a box I opened it to find a box of ships for Noble Armada and the Rule book so I got a Free game that's pretty freaking cool I must say! Even though it's not a game I wanted to pick up it was still a ton of free stuff and I thought it was really nice for Matthew to do that.

My Squadron boxes ordered early Dec 2011 that were finally arrived on Feb 6 2012 as I looked at my new minis they are well to be honest disappointing I realize I can't hold every miniature manufacture to the standards of a GW but this was way worse than fincast with mold lines bubbles and flash. So all in all I am really disappointed in Mongoose as a company. I kinda got the feeling that when I complained on Mongooses forums I was ignored but when I posted on Dakka things started to get way better customer service wise. Maybe I am wrong about this maybe it was just the timing or a random occurrence.

The game seems to be solid and really fun to play TBH and I am happy with that but if I continue to buy minis for this game I may look elsewhere a shame really I want to support the company that makes a fun rules set but in the end you can't depend on getting your order in any normal time frame and when the minis do arrive they are lack luster. This makes me want to pursue other avenues.

really sorry to hear that feller, from personal experiance, I once waited almost 12 months for a model. Their were multiple issues with it, and I was haranguing mongoose a lot about it. When it arrived, I received a just released fleet box of the Psi Corps which was nice, I also received several free ships for the drakh fleet when my initial order was delayed. I have always found mongoose to be pretty good at customer service (but a bit touchy sometimes on forum coments) the fall down often seems to be on the manufacturing side. Remeber GW have years more experiance of produising minis, mongoose were, and i guess still are primarily a rpg company.

with my issues It may have helped that I contacted both Alex, and Matt direct as I admit the sales e-mail address got me no joy.

with regards to your mini quality, I think the first batch were pretty gash to be honest, hopefully it's early teething troubles. But they will change them for you.. as most game companies do :-)

At least you've got your stuff. I ordered two fleet boxes end of November with the bit of the Christmas budget I had set aside for me. Not yet arrived.

Of course I'd be far angrier if I'd had these problems with my daughters Christmas present.

As an aside, which A Call to Arms: Noble Armada ships did you get?

At the risk of offering one of those annoying "make lemons into lemonade" replies, ACtA:NA has a pretty interesting setting (shared with the Fading Suns RPG universe) to offer in its own right; since you have the book for free now as it stands, I would recommend taking a leaf through it and seeing if anything there (or in the previews for the upcoming Fleets of the Fading Suns supplement) catches your eye.

Cool; how do you like the look of their ships?

(The Kurgans are one of the "barbarian" powers set for Fleets of the Fading Suns; their current playtest list is in the preview pdf on that book's product page. If you are curious about the Caliphate from a background perspective, there is info in the old Star Crusade pdf from a prior edition of the Fading Suns RPG; though I'd imagine much of the info there may be covered in FotFS itself once it is released.)

Noble Armada. Great game. I own every house model for all 5 fleets. Rulebook is pretty solid. Game play is REALLY fun especially boarding actions that give the game a close assault element. Not to mention the models are plentiful. Noble Armada is definitely a home run game from Mongoose as far as development and execution goes and the models are usually pretty good quality castings.

If you want some good well done starship combat love with good models then I cant recommend Noble Armada enough.
