My first British 1:6000 ships

Pretty poor photos (bleached out by bright sunshine), but here's the start of my British fleet.

I've got a load of N class destroyers and Malaya class that are not in the pics and a lot more on order, especially the MM 1:1200 planes!

I love the idea of the tiny ships meaning I can run quite complex and varied fleets including subs and aircraft.

Very nice, although I have to ask, is there a reason that the Destroyer is marked with a Union Jack and all the others with White Ensigns?

It's really fast and easy to paint these ships. you need to be quite severe with highlights and I think camo schemes will be lost on such tiny surfaces.

The destroyers were done first, before I thought about what SHOULD be on the marking!
I put a union jack on and then thought that doesn't look right...
I will repaint them soon, but I've got more planes to do first.

can anyone recommend a nice surface for playing with the small ships on??
I like the idea of the terrain mats, but I think they be too rough for the small scale. Can't wait for the rules to come out on land batteries - I'll be building a section of coast line.

Have a look at this page and see if its what your after

http://www.hotzmats.com/

they do with and without hexes and also do custom sprayed mats

You could also try linoleum

Or the good old painted board

Cor, hotmatz are rather nice and pretty cheap with the Dollar rate at the moment....
I'm quite tempted....

Thanks

No problem, I just wondered why you had used both, had they all been Union Jacks I wouldn't probably have brought it up (even though the ensign is more appropriate).

Maybe its at anchor or alongside :)

Can I just ask - are you actually just 2 foot tall? How did you manage to paint such tiny ships?!!?? I think I would have gone blind/insane (delete as appropriate) painting anything that small. My 1/3000th scale haven't got a fraction of that detail on ...
