At its peek the fleet consisted of 2 dreadnoughts, 2 heavy cruisers, 5 light cruisers, 19 destroyers and 12 submarines. Technically it was a modern fleet. Most of the ship's were in a good state. In a way the defeat in 1898 led to the spanish fleet being cleared out of most of the junk. The two canarias class heavy cruisers and 3 cervera class light cruisers were excellent ships based on british designs. This is also true of the 12 Churruca class destroyers. The Alsedo destroyers and the four old italian deatroyers that the nationalists bought were dated by the civil war. As were the Mendez Nunez and Navarra light cruisers, even after being refitted. The submarines were largely coastal boats but good designs with a little age on them. The two dreadnoughts were a little odd. They were the smallest dreadnoughts ever built. They were an innovative design but they were severly dated by the civil war. Unfortunately both dreadnoughts, 1 heavy cruiser and a number of other ships were lost in the civil war.
Duck-billed Mongoose is going to post the fleet for me pretty soon so you can get a look at it.
