Mongoose

Moongoose are about to launch their new and revised Elric/EC material -- all of which is generally of a far higher production standard than Chaosium's. I've seen a lot of their work and must say it's far superior to anything I've seen before. I'm very pleased with what they're doing.

Good. The creator of the IP thinks the licensed IP is well done.

Here's hoping it doesn't turn as bitter as the Chaosium situation did.

Mongoose would have to do a lot for that to happen. All indications from the Multiverse forums point to this arrangement with Mongoose being supported on all ends.

Personally I would have liked to see the d20 version (Dragon Lords) work out. But aside from the Chaosium issues (like not even getting a complementary copy, let alone royalties) the execution was not great. This version has me quite interested.

With:

* Mongoose doing Elric
* Elric series being rerelease
* Elric comic books to be rereleased
* The Elric movie moving again

How can we not be excited? :D

The Elric movie moving again

With friend's inside the industry, I've been told there have been a few teething problems with getting the Elric movie going. I know Mike Moorcock is very enthusiastic about having some input in the movie, which has caused a slight delay in production. It's just getting the mix right; from book to film. Mike doesn't want to see his vision ruined by Hollywood, which is understandable. This does cause a few problems for those making the film, however, with communication between producers and author slowing the process down. Once everything is ironed out, I'm sure the movie will be quick to our screens.

Let's be honest he's hardly likely to say I'm really unhappy with this new deal I've just signed, is he? that would dampen sales a lot and therefore hit his pocket.

Duh.

Duh.

You should read what he's written at the site about all that. He generally says when he doesn't like something, and it's happened a time or two.

Mr. Moorcock is NOTORIOUS for speaking his mind.

He's even said some positive things about the Chaosium ruleset (just not the business practices...):shock:

So, if he does encounter something he doesn't like, he's more than likely to let the world know. :twisted:

The thing is that Chaosium never were commercial people. As an example, most of all the companies are turning to full-colour books while Chaosium is still with B/W.
They have their own way but they are still great and employed some of the best authors in the RPG industry (Morrison, Watts, and of course L. Whittaker for Stormbringer).
Again, remimber that Chaosium had enormous financial problems some times ago and couldn't give the full attention to all their RPG lines as much as they wanted but I am sure H.P. Lovecraft wouldn't have disapproved. :)

HIYAS!

This is totally untrue! MM got a hefty advance, even! Chaosium does right.

I'm excited about the prospect of an Elric movie. I'll have to re-read all six Elric books again. Let's cross our fingers and hope that Hollywood doesn't screw it up.

You might want to head over to Moorcock's Miscellany and read this particular thread, which was only started a few days ago. Here's a snippet from July 19, 2008. Three days ago.

The forums are open to sign up, so feel free so sign in and explain to Mike that he has received royalties from Chaosium. Since you have a unique insight, perhaps you can even tell him where the checks are.

I know that is NOT the forum for discussions about the upcoming Elric movie trilogy (as far as i know they have bought the rights "to produce 3 movies, based upon the 11 Elric books").

IMHO the best thing they could do is:
Movie 1: Make the first movie "Elric of Melnibone", based upon that book.
Movie 2: Let someone write a screenplay based upon books 2 to 5 of the original 6 ones, plus the more recent books. Going with the main storyline only.
Movie 3: Make the movie "Stormbringer", based upon that book.

AVOID anything Eternal-Champion- world-overlapping-mishmash, except the meeting of the three Champions in book 2.

But are only my 2 cents.

Cheers
