More painted stuff!

Since we have started a campaign in our wee country Queensland town, I thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to get off my backside and finish painting some more stuff.

Fluffy05 is still painting up his EA,
Evil Bob is still using counters for his Centauri,
and I have painted up a Dilgar, Shadow and Minbari fleet for myself and the other guys.

One of the guys has a whole heap of Centauri models which I have offered to help paint one weekend. I reckon that with 2-3 of us beavering away we can knock off a fleet in 3 hours.

I have uploaded some picks and would appreciate your comments. Still awaiting on some of the additional Dilgar hulls out of the USA to roundout this fleet. Also have a couple more Sharlin, Tinashi and the fighters on the painting table to complete the Minbari.

FYI,

The Dilgar decided to attack the Centauri on the weekend and we rolled up a 5 FAP War Annihilation....
Turn 1, scratch 2 Targrath and 1 Sp 0 NSA & 1 Ochlavita v 2 Darkners
Turn 2, scratch the Sp0 NSA and another Targrath, 1 Ochlavita & critted the usefulness out of the 2 Tikrit vs 1 Darkner
Turn 3, scratch 2 Ochlavita, 2 Tikrit, 2 Jashakar and 1 Mishakur v another Darkner and a Vorchar...
Game over in turn 4, everything dead part from some fighters, the 2 Garasoch and 4 Jashakar who managed to jump out or flee the table

The following sums up the game in one. 8 fighters surrounding the Vorchar, 1 hull point left, so only shoot 2 fighters. Score 1 hit and it is a 6-6 Crit, resulting explosion results in 6 of 8 fighters dying. mmmmm

I like your ships bud,and love how you have done your bases too.

As for the centauri game ouch, i hope you have a mankhat on order that should help abit i think.
 
Hello there polemarch. I wonder if you could tell me what paints and from what paint range you used to paint your dilgar and minbari fleet.

I like the way they have been done. I have a dilgar fleet and had some ideas of paints to use. But when i saw your paint job on your fleets. I would like to use the same colors that you have.

All i what is the paints and inks you used and mixes if any.

It would be allot easier for people like me. If mongoose would bring out a painting guide for the call to arms miniatures range. They did it for starship troopers. So why not a call to arms?

Quick painting guide for you. First of all I am a very lazy painter when if comes to B5 figs so the paints and techniques I use a suited to large batch operations. I use Vallejo Paints and Citadel Inks.

Dilgar Fleet

Base/undercoat – Testors Nato Enamel Green in a spray can
Main Hull
Dry brush – Goblin Green
Stipple – Livery Green
Wet shade into corners – Dark Green
Wash – Green ink about 1:4 in a retarder medium
Light dry brush – Livery Green
Metal Areas
Black metal areas – Black glaze
Heavy dry brush – Tinny Tin
Highlight – Glorious Gold
Fins
Base - Imperial Blue
Dry brush – Magic Blue
Red Areas
Base – Scab Red
Highlight – Bloody Red
Glaze – Red Ink
Varnish
Citadel Satin

Minbari

Base/undercoat – Testors Light Blue Polycarbonate in a spray can
Main Hull
Heavy dry brush – Electric Blue
Light dry brush – White
Stipple lines – White & Magic Blue
Glaze – Blue Ink 1:4 Water / PVA glue
Ink lines - Green ink about 1:4 in a retarder medium
Wash – Purple ink about 1:8 in a mix of water / Pledge One Go (Future Floor Polish) and retarder medium (~5:1:1)
Varnish
Citadel Satin

Shadows

Base/undercoat – black primer in a spray can
Main Hull
Light dry brush – Ghost Grey
Glaze – Blue Ink 1:4 Water / PVA glue
Wash – Purple ink about 1:8 in a mix of water / Pledge One Go (Future Floor Polish) and retarder medium (~5:1:1)
Varnish
Citadel Gloss

Bases

Citadel 60mm bases (I prefer the larger base size for stability, you get less figures poking out the ends and it means that everything is on a consistent size), however the large Mongoose bases for the Shadows.
Place all the bases you have side by side in a block pattern
Base coat with Black Primer in a spray can
Spray yellow paint - random manner, light mist, some heavy bits & splatter
Spray red paint - light mist and splatter
Spray white paint – light mist and splatter
Varnish with gloss spray paint.
Stick your mini into the base.

how about we swap dice next time.... I am going to spend the weekend drilling out little holes on the 6 facing and filling them with mercury and pluging them up! 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 :P
 
well that's fine but you know that you will accidently drill out the one's and then I'll be rolling 6's.

That was some bad luck that game, I was rolling everything I needed and you were rolling everything I needed. :)

That battle between the Vorchar and the 8 fighters typified the game. You get the 6-6 crit at the time you don't want it.

Oh well, it makes the rest of the campaign a little hard for the Dilgar. I might turn my attention to the minbari.
