Big tin of wood dye, paint the models basically with normal paint, then when this is dry, dip them in the tin and shake vigorously, leaving a bit of dye on them (it looks lots, but isnt) then leave to dry. When dry hey should look inked, drybrushed and highlighted, with some varnish!

Im not sure if this is right, I have only seen this, never done it.

The ripplers were quick and easy.

1. Without the wings on, Prime with red oxside primer.
2. Heavy dry brush of 'Hawkwood' read medium brown on the ripplers.
3. Paint the claws and teeth with an off white.
4. Dip the whole thing in minwax water based wood stain
5. Let dry.

6. Prime the wings white.
7. Paint the wings pale blue.
8. Ink the winks with yellow ink.
9. Let the wings dry.

10. Put the wings on.
11. Base and seal.

Thats it. The wood stain needs to be water based.

If you want a light coat, dip the figures in your wash water first, then hit the stain.

Look back a few weeks, I dipped some trooper and posted some pics.

Ugh, I so don't like the look of blister/blaster bugs. Even though the ranged attacks are much needed in the arachnid army, I could never bring myself to use them.

Hopefully there'll be some sort of beam bug in the future.

When you dip the model in the water based woodstain, do you just drop it in the tin until it is covered and then pick it out and leave it to dry? I just want to make sure i don't over cover them with the woodstain.

recently, I bought some Fanatic Army Painter. Seems to be the same effect as for your figs (great job, by the way!). Just one small pot (250 mL) of this stuff cost me 40 Euro (approx. 27 Pounds or 54 USD). Is this FAP basically just wood stain and have I been ripped off or not? :?

Basically yes.

2 things to keep in mind. 1st, use a tool of some sort, tweezers, pliers, anything to hold the figure while dipping. It can be a challenge trying to fish out a little chunk of lead from the bottom of a can.
2nd, make sure your figure will fit into the can.

Once you pill the fig out of the dip just set it on some card board and let time and gravity do its work. Resist the urge to pick up the figure while its drip, as you will "disturb" the way the stain dries.

I am not familiar with that product. I suggest getting a can of stain and dipping 1 fig in each product and view the finish result. A quart of wood stain should run you under 10.00 usd.

Interesting idea though. I could print some labels and resell the cans...

Bob, you forgot the part about those calling in the next ten minutes either get tweezers included at no extra charge of you'll double their order :lol:. I can't believe that actually works- sheesh. For those that it does work on, if they are that stupid believing that I think the advertiser shouldn't need to give it away (they don't, as it's built into the original cost of course). I think a new successful strategy would be to go ahead and take the plunge (it will probably work, too!) of saying that those that call in the next ten minutes can double their order for only twice the cost. I should be in marketing :roll: ...
