Monsters of Legend 2

9 monsters so far, and a treatise on the concept of planes for Legend. It's a mix of my idea, twisted with Prime_Evil's take on it and a dash of Moorcock.

Not sure how many of you have read Raymond Feist? His concept of the Hall of Worlds, with its infinite doors and central inn is also cool. The gods had sealed away the Unnamed God (Chaos) in an extra-dimensional prison, if memory serves ...

I remember it well. I even borrowed the idea for an old campaign I ran, except it was basically one long road (the never-road) and a hotel/motel/inn which would always show up just at the right time.

Hmm. Inverting the idea Prime_Evil. I must admit I do like that, and I am now so tempted to do a small chapter for this monster book on a sample planar cosmology for Legend (damn you ;))

You're welcome :)

And this cosmological approach has the added advantage that when Robert E. Howard talkas about "Demons of the Outer Dark" he is speaking the literal truth ;)

Not quite Damon, the TARDIS (since I work on the Doctor Who RPG), travels in time and space. This box only shifts dimensions/planes and cannot travel through space/distance.
Ok. Ok. It's not the same, but it is very similar

Good work BTW Darren, as usual.

Indeed Prime_Evil, indeed. Works really well for S&S (so would work nicely in Xoth) :)

True...although I'd be careful about presenting anything as the definitive last word on planar cosmology - Legend isn't D&D and there's no need to lock folks into a single interpretation of how the multiverse works.

I wonder if it is worth mentioning how Lore skills work with a planar cosmology - I tend to assume that there might be a Lore (Multiverse) skill that provides a high-level overview of the cosmology in the way that Lore (Million Spheres) does in the Elric RPG, plus a whole series of Lore (Specific Plane) skills that provide knowledge about individual dimensions. There might also be skills such as Lore (Demons), and Lore (Elder Gods) that provide information about specific groups of planar denizens. And I wonder if there might be advanced skills based upon the Survival skill that provide practical knowledge of how to survive the natural hazards of specific planes.

It would also be cool to briefly outline a couple of new professions such as the Planar Wanderer and Planar Scholar...

I would like to see that kind of thing PrimeEvil. As a new(ish) Legend/RQ convert, it is helpful to see other GMs take on things not explicitly covered in a Rulebook, such as the Planes/Dimensions etc.

Perhaps we could start a new post so as to not completely hijack this thread? :D

I think that might be a good idea - sorry about taking over here :)

Not at all, always cool to hear other GMs' thoughts! :D

Worry not about being locked in, whenever I write anything - see the Magic Chapter of SGB for example. I'm all about giving people a toolbox to play with.

10 monsters converted, introduction tidied up and extended along with a section on good/evil and how it relates to the book - as well as a section on some fun planar cosmology toolbox bits.

Not a bad day today. Only 50 more monsters to go!

I do believe, Wolf, that you've got more done in two months than the rest of the Mongoose team have done in two years......lol

I'm not sure about that, but so far on my time with Legend I've done work on:

Samurai of Legend
Gladiators of Legend
Spider God's Bride (twice)
Spider God's Bride 2
and now Monsters of Legend 2.

I'd have loved to have a crack at Pirates of Legend to be honest.

I'm going to work on SGB 3 though :)

You are not wrong - Wolf Man (Darren) is just what the line needed. We have also recently recruited another chap in a similar role to Darren so, all going well, you will have a veritable feast of Legend material in the next few months!

Thank you Matthew, I owe you a beer :)

Also yeah, I can truly say that Mongoose's new recruit is just what the line needed and it's a total pleasure to work with him on Legend.

Does this fella have a name and handle?? Is he on here? And what's he do? :)

Need to know where to throw the kudos and back-slapping. Wolf's head will get too big if he keeps being the sole recipricant around here......LOL :D

Sam

Thanks, Sam ;)

I'm sure they'll come forwards if they want to. I can tell you right now, I am already impressed with what I have seen.

Yet more Legend material on the way, frikkin awesome!

The last few weeks and months have been good going if I count the Independent Stuff and RQ6 release, and Magic World ... Bring it on! :D
