monkey magic rpg

Ahem .... sorry for shouting  Just very pleased with the news :D :D

The story was in the Times today - Japanese TV (can't remember which company) is remaking the series to be shown this year! I believe there will be 11 episodes to begin with and it has already been snapped up by someone to be shown on British TV. The lead actor is meant to be very good with the wishing-staff and the cloud has had a makeover as well!

So not only will we have the originals but all new Monkey to enjoy as well!!! (So it could be a really, really good time to release a game ... hint, hint!)

All Hail The Great Sage, Equal of Heaven!!!

We now return you to your normal programming...

read this too and it looks awesome a punk monkey with excellent staff ability and the rights have already been brought here to be shown this year. 8)

I've seen the new program and, although nothing will compare for me to the original, it is still very good.

The main actor is one of Japan's most successful 'talents' (you'd have to see and hear who else qualifies here as a 'talent' to understand...'non-talent' is often a better description).

The original actor, Sakai san, still appears regularly on Japanese TV presenting one program or another. Plus the original theme music is performed at least once a year on one of Japan's New Year nostalgia programs. And yes, everyone still knows the words and yes, you can select it in your local karaoke box.

I don't know if the fans are aware or not, but the original actress that played the buddhist monk committed suicide several years ago. I can't remember her name though.

If you want a short-term Monkey fix then check out the manga 'The Monkey King' by Katsuya Terada. Like a lot of original Japanese manga though, it isn't a children's comic and is pretty graphic as far as violence and sex is concerned.

Cheers,

Well, card games like Magic: The Gathering are the most popular in Japan so something like that from Mongoose would go over very well I'm sure (though from responses to me listing MTG as my favorite game on Mr Evil's thread, I don't think such a game would be popular with hardcore Mongoose fans!!).

Wargames are starting to bud here. GW has finally opened a single shop in Tokyo. Friends of mine will play any game and like the Mongoose range. Three of us play A Call to Arms regularly. Conversions are slow in coming though. Warmaster and Warmachine are being bought by the group I play with and hopefully some Mongoose titles will be next on the list.

RPGs are a bit different. Japnese people (typically seen as reserved) are anything but when they role play. Plus, coolest of all, girls have no problems at all joining in. No one sees RPGs as being 'for the boys'. The only differences though are that the girls here are more like 'forget the treasure, let's save the cute little cat' and whereas I find most gusy will be like 'Chainmail +1? I'll take it' J-girls are 'Well...how does it look?' If OGL Anime ever gets released, that might be something Mongoose could consider translating into Japanese for the market over here.

Guess what I found out on another fourm and remember, this may not be true.

oh, I should have checked.

So, they have already done the first season.

I wonder if there is a trailer for it floating around the internet.

Reports say that Monkeys background story has been dropped. Well most of bits that were generally enjoyed by the poplulace.

Hopefully they have come up with some innovative ideas.
