I'm getting set for a Monkey rpg! I'm reading Journey to the West as we speak. Outlaws of the Water margin was good too. My sattelite channel "can" get BBC so I'm going to get .................MONKEY!  :P

Wuxia - I don't think its on BBC anymore, rather its on channel 4... sorry. But then again that maybe on your satellite options as well... god knows I just have terrestrial tv.... and I haven't got round to plugging in the arial yet...

Apparently though the new game is based on a very old book.... and Journey to the West, is a very old book....

However some peoples view of what is an old book an d mine are probably very different.

Recent - 1950s-current.
Modern - post world war one to 1950s
Classic - Popular book, or important text, from 18th - early 20th.
Old Book - Written before Printing Press upto around about 16th Centuary
Very Old Book/Classical - Ancient Greece/Roman/Chinesse upto around 5-9 AD (Dark Ages).
Ancient Book - Usually on Stone. Gilgermesh for example and Beowolf.

 You think the same as me buddy. Guess we can lump Outlaws of the Water Margin and Romance of the Three Kingdoms in the same category then. Anybody know when it's going to be announced though? :?

of course... it makes sense....

MONGOOSE MAGIC!

Msprang - is irrepressable!

So matt, you can talk the talk, but can you 'chop the chops....

Nah think about it, not just as Monkey per se but as an Oriental kind of Game, thats not Samurai

Proper Kung Fu/Karate Movies, Water Margin, Crouching Tiger, Monkey, Stormridders series, Dead or Alive, et al... A high Fantasy Oriental Game, rather than your bog standard, Samurai. Something that hasn't really been seen before

Ok I love Monkey, but I am willing to bet that any of the above would make a fantastic setting, but then it would be quite easy to create a game that allowed them all to be played out.

Legend of the 5 Rings is great, but its just Samurai, so it just Japan. Oriental myths rock in a way that western mythology just fails to (excepting maybe Greek myths)

A game that let you play, Monkey and Go, or Wodan Warriors, or Sneaky magic like Ninja, heart torn noble bandits, magic weilding warrior gods...or Arcane Kensai Avengers.... Wicked.

wicked.....

The big thing about OGL is to offer as many possibilities to the gamer as possible. There is not one gamer out there who loves everything. I've gamed since '81 and as much as I loved many theres alot of ideas wish never were brought up. With this jewel of an idea (d20 system) we can ALL have at least a few things we can sink our teeth into. I like Monkey too mostly because it goes against the grain of most of the standard fare while paying tribute to a very old literary work.
