Mongoose Traveller Merchant Prince

Did I miss Merchant Prince (or whatever it is called)? Is it tucked away in one of the other books?

If I didn't miss it, when will the expanded merchant character book be coming out?

Thanks!

They haven't written that book yet.

That would be nice to have more merchant ships and expanded trade tables. Plus of course, more merchant character classes.

Merchant Prince is THE book I'm waiting for. Trade has always been the backbone of my Traveller campaigns.

I'd strongly recommend you get GURPS Traveller: Far Trader then. It'd take a little work to adapt to Mongoose (the GURPS Tech levels are different) but the trade rules in there are the most complete and realistic ever done for Traveller.

Ive just been reading an OLD Signs & Portents, number 55 to be exact, and on page 49, where GH is explaining his writing of MT he actually mentions he has the outlines of Merchant Prince!!!

Well I am quite interested in Merchant Prince as long as it has detailed merchant ship rules, procedures, customs, etc but I am far more interested in new Traveller books rather than just a straighforward rehash of all the original classics in a new, more expensive, format. Its ok if they add new elements for example the new Equipment book is great and so ids the new Core Book but the other Scout, Spinward Marches and Patrons books are almost a rip off of the old books and the Fighting Ships book was very poorly done. I havent seen the other Traders and Gunships book but looked like it was a repeat of the ships in the core rules mostly. I am not prepared to pay for simple repeats of the classic books. And the adventures so far have been right boring what on earth did they pick Belter for?

Nope, not really. In fact, they're all new vessels, on the whole. Agent, Scoundrel, and Psion tread new ground, for sure.

I'm quite looking forward to Merchant Prince and enjoyed the other books, being a traveller completist I own most of the editions in either pdf or dead tree. I dislike the way scoundrel added specific skills for security breaching when I'd been just using electronic and mechanical engineer to breach locks, but then again I don't use the tables, just use the main book point buy system and PCs can buy whatever skill they wantif they can justify it (e.g. no Barbarians with Computer-5!). I can't talk about Psion as it wasn't in stock when I went to the shop.

As for the adventures I thought Prison Planet was useful as sooner or later most Travellers step on the wrong side of the law. Belt Strike was a plus for me for the expansion on the belter career for more personal reasons, one of my most memorable characters was an-ex belter when I played Traveller in my teens (I had been reading Larry Niven's Protector at the time I rolled the Char).

Aslan seems good but I've only skimmed it as I've been busy writing a scenario.

Well I used to have a massive collection of Traveller books but I got real and got rid of them all except for the original box set that I couldnt bear to part with. I just found there were so many rules and expansions that it got a bit unwieldy and not fun trying to play a game. But I got the Classic reprints to cover all the rules in case I would need them at any point in the future - saved me loads of space. And I am glad I did because now I can buy just what I want from Mongoose and use the Classic reprints for the rest of the stuff such as Spinward Marches etc. But I'm not buying all the Mongoose stuff unless its very good and very different. Besides I dont have a group so I dont get much out of the adventures etc I just like fighting battles etc.

Ever considered virtual tabletop applications?

I know how you feel I was without a group for years after most of us moved away to different parts of the country or world to work. I had to put up with MMORPGs for my roleplaying kicks.

Luckily for me I met a couple of friends who expressed an interest so managed to start a small group.

But if your having fun then whatever floats your boat.
