First, thanks again to Mongoose for the generous donations to our Gen Con Paranoia Trek events. The players were very happy to have a chance to win the core Paranoia Books (Troubleshooters, Internal Security, and High Programmers). They were almost always chosen before the Star Trek prizes we provided ourselves, with the possible exception of the Captain Kirk Christmas ornament.
We had three great sessions. The event was so popular that only one player was able to get in with generic tickets. There were lots of funny moments, so I'll just share one of my favorites.
This year was a reversal of Galaxy Quest. A deranged programmer from HPD&MC thinks the members of the away team are actors, so he transports them to help his failing network. They appear on other network shows for cross-promotion, including Celebrity Jeopardy.
The category was "Name That Color". For 600, the answer: The color of engineering, ops, and security uniforms in TNG.
The player whose turn it is to answer hasn't seen much Trek, and no TNG. Meanwhile the player next to him is chomping at the bit, because he knows the answer and can buzz in if the first player gets it wrong. (Wrong answers lose points and earn you a beating from the Klin-G-ONN standing behind you with a truncheon.)
Finally the first player takes a guess: "Red." That's a doubly bad answer: It's incorrect, and the player failed to form his response in the form of a question. BAM! POW! WHAP!
The second player player smiles smugly as he quickly buzzes in.
"WHAT is red! No, wait! I meant yellow!" BAM! POW! WHAP!
I've heard dozens of players quote Monty Python at the table, but that was the first unintentional re-enactment.
