Mongoose and 4ED

Frankly, it makes good buisiness sense to stay as current as possible. I think that a lot of gamers will resist the change for a while, then slowly drift over to 4E. That's what happened in the 3E to 3.5 shiftover.

Agreed. And with the length of time in development, starting asap will bear fruit about the time more of the transitions of hard-core fans occurrs.

Hmm. There's an edition after 3e?

Hi guys,

We are indeed planning to support 4e, with some old faces reappearing, along with something brand new. . .

I don't suppose you could tell us more on the subject could you? I'm wondering what older stuff they plan to update and what is the new stuff.

Does this rendition of the GSL 4E SRD throw any monkey wrenches in your plans?

No doubt it will, and once you go 4e there is no going back.

Not really - at least, on first inspection.

The main thrust of our 4e support (we have a number of irons in that fire, but I am thinking of one in particular) was planned and designed _specifically_ for 4e, so it avoids a lot of the problems we would have in trying to convert material.

It also plays to 4e's strengths, so I think it could be a cracker :)

It is good to see that Mongoose isn't adding to the melodrama surrounding the GSL and just getting on with the job :) Look forward to seeing what you have planned.

At the end of the day, it is what it is - this is WotC's playground, and they make the rules. We had made some good guesses as to what would be in the GSL, and we were mostly right. The only real downer is the inability to print articles in S&P but, to be honest, nothing had been set in stone for this at our end, and it is easy to compensate.

Yep. I think this is a sensible attitude.

It is interesting to note that the GSL is, in effect, a supplement-only license, far more so than even d20 was.

I agree with this in relation to the OGL. However, D20 and GSL are very similar both in terms of substance and intention.

Not really. Under the D20 STL, one was able to quote the vast majority of the rules material, as was done with T20 and a couple others. Officially, requiring the core rules to play, as (for t20, at least) one couldn't explain how to spend those skill points. (Everything else you need to know to play T20 is in T20...)

Since the D&D4 SRD includes NO rules material... that level is no longer possible.

The D&D 4E SRD is merely the list of referenceable terms.
