Mongoose
So as posted before.....I was able to pick up some old 2nd Edition War models dirt cheap. One of the boxes was the Minbari Fleet. For 8 bucks I basically got a Sharlin War Cruiser and 2 Tinashi War Frigates out of it and tossed the over large fliers. What should be my next step. I do have the fleet book coming for 2nd addition. Any insight?

You'll need to fill out your fleet a bit in order to make a raid fleet. Take a look at the Minbari fleet box that Mongoose has now. I would see if there is anyone who wanted the flyers before you toss them out.

Your next step is to edit the title of this thread before Burger sees it...

hehe....I didn't say I was a spelling genius...lol

oh...and does anyone want the fliers???

there are x4 fliers
and x4 Nial Fliers.....

I mean....these are big....the fliers are longer then the Tinashi War frigates....

I might be interested. I am thinking of using them as Minbari breaching pods. Any idea how much you want for them and how much shipping would be to the UK?

wouldn't be much....I would actually do trades as well....or.....say.....you buy me a squad of each....but the smaller scale....and I'll take care of shipping as well to you? PM me....we can work this out.

I CERTAINLY do not call myself an expert on the game, but from my limited experiences I can say this:

I have tried 2 approaches to my Minbari fleet and both seem to work. The first way is a long range, heavy beam list. This excels with your Sharlin and Tinashi already. When you do the heavy beam approach, you'll want Tigara models and use the alternate version that has the 2 AD beam weapon. Now you just hold back and blast away! In this game, your opponent tends to miss out on shooting more often because of failed stealth rolls. When playing this sort of fleet, I end up loosing when the opponent gets in close as I am limited by my mini-beam weapons. If you are playing a standard 5 point raid, I would think that your Teshlin, and (eventual) 3 Tigaras will be enough for some good games.

The other style of play is harder, but also pretty darn good too! When you try to get in close, you attempt to cut your opponent with both 4" DD weapons as well as 8" DD weapons. This fleet takes the standard Tigara, Tortha and Troligan models. Because you are close up, your stealth isn't as great, but your AD goes through the roof! Although I have not done this yet, I would think that a Leshath scout would work well with this as will let you re-roll many of your misses. My particular build is a Troligan, 2 Tigaras and 2 Torthas.

Oh! And no matter what you take, you'll probably want 1-2 stands of Flyer fighters and about 4 Nials. Too bad the Sharlin is a War level because you'll need LOTS more ships to effectively field that one.

so would the B5 Minbari Reinforcment box set be worth the cost??

1 Morshin carrier
2 Troligan Armoured Cruisers
3 Leshath Heavy Scouts
6 Torotha Assault Frigates

this is what comes in the box

You can't get that from Mongoose anymore. Three Leshath's is a bit much, too, I'd only ever really want one. Maybe you can get the box from somewhere and trade away the scouts you don't really need.

I used two in my tourney at weekend. Finished second, ten points behind another Minbari player.
they did ok against Narn, they did a great job against the centauri, and then struggled against a Minbari fleet. definately worth taking in the right instances though.

Why go through the effort of trading them away. As a Leshath is just a Tigara with a sensor pod added they can be easily converted. It's easy enough to cut the sensor pods away from the Leshath with a pair of side cutters and then file the roughness out. I did that with two of the three Leshaths I got in the reinforcements box. There isn't anyone out there that will be able to tell after I finish painting them.

Definitely worth taking against Gaim! All of a sudden those photon bombs don't seem quite so scary.

Really the Leshath is a great ship but against AP weapons, hull 4 is a surely a little vulnerable and as the stealth score is irrelevant how come it worked - just interested really?

hidd is talking about Troligans I think, not Leshaths! Leshaths would die horribly to Gaim..... evil fighters plus photon bombs... ouch.
