MgT HG 2e Bridge, Radiation Shielding, and hardenening

Mongoose
Afternoon PST,

ON MgT HG 2e p. 13 Radiation Shielding states that "A ship with radiation shielding decreases the amount of rads absorbed by all crew by 1,000 (rather than the normal 500), and treats the bridge as if it is Hardened. Radiation shielding costs Cr25000 per ton of hull."

Can you apply radiation shielding to just the bridge in order to harden the compartment?

You can do whatever you want in your game.

There's also the hardened bridge option (earlier High Guard):

Hardened Bridge: A hardened bridge is shielded against radiation attacks. The ship’s computer systems are immune to EMP and the number of rads absorbed by the bridge crew is reduced by 1,000. Hardening a bridge adds 25% to the cost of the bridge. If a ship has radiation shielding installed, it is assumed to be hardened.

Thank you for the information that in my game I can do whatever I want. However, if I happen to submit a design to Mongoose Publishing I would like the design conform to the published rules.

In a number of post after I purchased the PDF of MgT HG 2e I mentioned using some of the CRB 1e and/or HG 1e rules that are not in HG 2e. I was informed that I had a choice of using HG 1e or HG 2e but mixing the rules was not a readily supported option.

Crud, when I went to open my HG 1e PDF I accidentally hit submit. Reviewing HG 1e a bridge that is hardened has a 25% price increase.

My thought of using HG 2e Radiation Shielding would up the cost of the light fighter 1.5 x Cr25,000 = Cr37,500. Applying HG 2e Hardened Options would increase the cost by Cr10,000 x 0.5 = Cr5,000 or using HG 1 Hardened Bridge would put the price at Cr10,000 x 0.25 = Cr2,500.

If I am understanding correctly one can import some of the CRB 1e and/or HG 1e rules that did not get merged into HG 2e?

I wouldn't object, there where a number of things I would have liked to have seen in the new edition that didn't make it in. As for it being official or not, that would be up to that msprange guy.

Radiation Shielding doesn't specifically exclude not being applied to the entire hull at least. The Holographic Hull option was specifically meant to used on whatever part of the hull you wanted to, could be 1 ton, could cover all 1,000,000 tons of the hull or anything in between. The original wording on this made it clear, but was changed prior to publication.

Thank you again for the feedback and I am hoping the msprange appears with an official yea or nay.

To be honest my first thought, without referring to the first edition rules, was to use the MgT HG 2e Hardened rules for the Bridge as a way to avoid applying radiation shielding to the entire hull. I then went back and decided to only indicate that the bridge is hardened when the hull has radiation shielding. My next choice was to apply radiation shielding to bridge and resulted in my question.

I wish that the fuel requirements in MgT HG 2e had left in the small craft requirements of less than one ton and kept the system ship requirement to two weeks. Four weeks for a star ship makes sense to me since the transit time from the Jump limit could take some time especially if the ship detours to the nearest gas giant to refuel.
