Spokane... It's creeping closer... can't be long now... :)
For you maybe, but it paqssed me buy. People South, North, East (West would put you in the pacific) have all received it and locals are telling me it is not available yet. :(

I have no idea why some places aren't getting it and others are. It's also amazing how some stores/distributors/companies can say something that is obviously still in print (or just released) isn't available.

Many years ago when I worked for Kenzer & Company, we had a problem with the games buyer for Waldenbooks. The Kingdoms of Kalamar (KoK) Atlas had come out and yet a month later this buyer kept telling the stores that the book didn't exist yet. The president of K&C even called Waldenbooks corporate offices to work out whatever the problem was, but still it took like six months to get the book in stock so stores could order it.. by then the three employees (of a five-person staff) at my Waldens just gave up and went to a local game store.

...
Then there is the FLGS in my area who, according to them, kept getting told that two books which SJ Games was still selling through their online store was out of print... I ended up getting my money back (I had pre-paid for the order) and ordering it from SJ Games...

I've received TWO copies... mmmmmm mercenary goodness (one in the bathroom to read, one in the bag to game).

Well; I'm back home from my holidays and no Mercenary for me yet... Which in this particular case suits me well, as the post office would have returned my copy to sender for failing to pick it up within the established time frame...

Have all the MGP preorders been shipped?

If anyone still cares... Mercenary is in Vancouver at Stratagies Games on Main.

I didn't pick one up... Read it and it didn't seem to bring anything to the game except the ticket system.
  • My PCs aren’t Mercenaries.
The new skills were unnecessary, except Archery, the rest just ruin other related skills.
The extra combat stuff isn't really useful.
The new careers are mostly silly. I won't use mass combat.
I already know that 1 Hull point equal 50 points of damage.
The equipment section is... um... read the other posts.

I have great hopes for High Guard... I would really like to know how to arrange hallways, what goes on a bridge, and a great host of other Design guidelines.

I guess silly wasn't the best word and I acknowledge that I read the book once.
Personally, I think the whole approach to the new careers was flawed. It felt a lot like D&D 3e endless list of prestige classes. They also seemed to forget that traveller careers are really Ex-careers, when someone retires to traveling they don’t usually do the same thing they did before retiring.

I think it would have been better to just add specialisations to the current careers in areas that really need it. The current careers are flexible and useful, like Navy: support; it allows the player and DM to come up with what the player actually did.

I would have liked to see an mercenary to be type specialisation for every career:
  • Law Enforcement: Bounty Hunter
    Rogue: Hired Thug
    Citizen: Bouncer
    Noble: Big Game Hunter
    Army: Rangers
    Scholar: Hacker
    Marine: Special Ops
    Et cetera
Any of these careers would have added more to the game and would have made good mercenaries after retirement. Hopefully they will take this sort of approach in High Guard or I probably won't use these prestige classes.

That is quite a good idea - where were you 6 months ago? :)
I'd be interested in seeing them written up in Signs and Portents (perhaps one per issue).

Still waiting... I've pre-ordered it a long while ago, but even air-mail takes about a week to get here, and the postman might have misplaced it like he did with the TMB. If I won't get it until next week's end, I'll go check in the post office.

Thanks to a game store nearby which will buy books (even if only for store credit), I now have a copy of my own.

It's not bad, I'd give it about 3.5 stars out of 5, but two things catch my eye: the TL of much of the equpiment listed is too high, and the first four TLs are too technologically advanced.

Finally got around to seriously reading my copy, and I'd give it 3.5 to 4 stars.

Obviously, its noticably less crunchy than its predecesor from a miniature wargames perspective, and has few odd omissions or reimaginings, but basically a solid useful effort. And, although I don't like the art, that's me, and so what ? The cover is cool....as ever. :)

I'm honestly not sure what all the (earlier fuss was about -I was expecting somthing like " Inquisitor Korpsefull presents Imperial Apocalyptic Arms and armor of the Wolfhead Black Astartes Legion of Starfalls Folderol-IV anti-chaos campaign of death" fer hecks' sake.

Yeah, the killer frisbee guns are a bit iffy, but so what ? Its not like Meson guns are any more reasonable.

That said, part of it may be that I run low combat games, so the hardware issues are moot...
