Martian adventures

Anyone looking for a setting that uses the Conan system of Dodge/Parry defense while waiting for the Second Edition to come out might want to check out Adamant Games Mars rpg. It has the same low fantasy feel, and has a section on giving earthers "strang new powers" to their characters to represent the gravity changes, alien brainwaves and such. Its avaliable in PDF or print. Just the place for a group of wayward adventurers that survived a runaway magic blast, curse, or fell asleep in a desert cave. It has stats for Red and Green Martians, White Apes, tentacled Grey Martians and their Tripods, Radium pistols and more. I thought it would be a fun diversion for a game or two with my group, maybe yours would like it too.

Sweet Christmas! :D I love the Barsoom saga!

I like it just as much as (or a little more then ) the Conan yarns. The Conan rule-set is perfect for Mars. If you read the books, you will know why Dodge & Parry is so important. The Pirate class becomes more useful when they serve on air-ships. Is a vary cool fiction with Conan-styled combat, Buccaneers-in-the-Sky, and a loincloth is seen as vary modest. Its a vary fun diversion! :D

I would love an OFFICIAL Barsoom/John Carter of Mars RPG, but alas the ERB estate probably would not allow it due to prohibitively high license fees, etc. The Conan system as is would not work, IMHO, and would require a GREAT deal of homebrew. However, a one-shot session where Conan is transported to Barsoom would seriously rock! 8)
Conan would really love some of that hot Dejah Thoris action!

Yes Barsoom is the business, like Conan.

I'm going to be using Conan, Spycraft and Iron Lords of Jupiter to run a Planetary Romance campaigh for my players.

Conan gives me ideas for the campaign, like gladitorial combat, nomad raiders and pirates (aliens) and melee weapons.

PR is basically Conan in space, with Psionics and Hi-tech gadgets instread of magic. Still lots of monsters though.

Paizio Publications are doing a series of books called Planet Stories that are worth checking out.

A while back I downloaded their free "teaser" copy. Looked like a cool game from what I saw. I am a big Barsoom fan from way back when. A Conan style campaign set on ERB's Mars would be great! :D

Of course any adventure with Dejah Thoris and Thuvia would be great. 8)

The Mars rpg was written with the Conan gaming style in mind. They shied away from saying it was Barsoom, fudged some names and added in rules for airships, tentacled Grey Martians and mad inventions, but a group of Hyborian adventurers would fit in without a problem. It also focuses on the character and their feats and skills, not the equipment. And if (which I doubt) the second edition makes your party want to re-roll their characters well then hey- Mars is a one way trip. Hope this helps all of you who have given me some great ideas and thoughts on making my game more enjoyable for my Conan group.
