Making the CRB more multiple-genre friendly

Of all the responses you listed, this is the one that makes me the saddest. I have seen it before and felt it before. Sometimes the old guard can be it's own worst enemy. :(

I'm a brand new Traveller and this is why I don't post here. I really want to talk about the playtest but I don't want to wade into that.

Feel free to talk about the playtest here, that's what this part of the forum is for. Don't worry too much about that, this forum isn't rife with people claiming just because their way is different you are doing it wrong, as long as you and your group enjoy doing things the way you are doing them you are doing just fine.

If it makes you feel any better, most of the people who have told me that have specified to which forums they posted. This forum was not one of them.

It's more fun to be a poster than a lurker. Lots of people here are making their own mark in the 2nd edition rules.

I respect your choice. I also understand it. One of the reasons I never went into Historical Wargames was because of how, as a twelve year old, I was treated at a game convention when I asked about the game some old grognards were playing. I was told I was not capable of understanding their game. Too hard and besides "you kids" just don't have the patients to play such a game. So he was right, I walked away and watched an old dinosaur continue to die, shrinking and fading away.

I learned from that experience that if I really want to be a part of something, I can't let a few people stop me. I would humbly suggest you might have some good insights or suggestions or ideas to offer. Thus I can't help but be curious about what you could share if you elected to. 8)

You are exactly he sort of person who's input I would like to see. There are a lot of us here who have played Traveller for years or even decades. Seeing the opinion of someone who does not have that baggage should be extremely valuable to the guys working on the project.

Me too.

I have been playing this game so long that I bring a LOT of assumptions (some from older versions and some from common house rules that are so ingrained, I THINK they are actual rules).

PLEASE comment on the playtest, after all you are the target audience.

I don't see the harm in being explicit in the CRB that the rules can be used for different genres. In technical writing, making assumptions about what your readers should already know is a cardinal sin (and RPG core rules are technical writing).
