LW fiction for Signs&Portents

Mongoose
I was wondering whether anyone at Mongoose could give an answer on this. I had the idea of writing a story that plays off in Magnamund, with each instalment of the story being about 4-5 pages long and coming out each month in S&P. The story I have in mind plays off in Toran (using the article in S&P 71) and revolves around a plot to assassinate someone on the ruling council.

My question in this: would S&P be interested in publishing something like that? The Magnamund universe is a very rich one, and it could benefit - in my humble opinion - from a little off-the-track exploration by other writers.

I'm not sure they're interested in fiction, they are interested in new articles that explore Magnamund or adventures though. I've tried the fiction route before just to give you a headsup.

Balls. I've tried the "new content" route, but am not even getting an acknowledgement on the character classes I have submitted. Think I'll dump the fiction here, in that case.

No news is probably good news, they aren't rejecting the concept.

Given they've just dumped a whole load of new classes in the form of the opfifical book, there's no reason they's want to flood S&P with it aswell right now.

Plus evil NPC classes are niche, unless you want to use them for NPCs. And if they are for NPCs, you really want to do it in the context of a source book where you have the region there aswell, or at least a set of bonus adventures.

I'd suggest giving it time!

I'll warn you now, it can take them quite a while to get back to you. You need patience to work in this industry even as a part-time contributor or freelancer.

Sommerlund for instance was originally written in 2005, right before they decided to shut down the d20 Lone Wolf RPG.

It's taken since then to get it published. It required some reworking of course to fit in with Joe's new take on the books, and to bring it up to spec with the new game.

Port Bax took over a year to get accepted for S&P.

Hmm, good to know. I know the guys at Mongoose have had their plates full with things for some time now, but I think most of us are starting to accept that they are terrible with deadlines. Not that we mind very much... But at least the fans are still getting new content, which is always appreciated.

As for new content, I was thinking of doing an "Inns of the Stornlands" article which covers some of the inns that can be found in the many towns and cities of the Stornland nations. The idea is to create pre-made, plug&play locations which a GM can then slot into his story as he needs them - if the campaign you are following simply says that the travellers arrive at an inn, you can take one of the model inns and use that to fluff out the campaign.

I think that's an excellent idea.

Zager - do it :)

You'll see that I tend to put similar things into the city writeups I did for S&P. Having a set of plug-in places to use for a GM is always useful, it's how I got started in the RPG industry as a writer over 11 years ago now.

Well then Zager, if you write this, maybe you can send it to me and I'll publish it in the Rising Sun, the online publication of TotS. It's been a while since we got an issue and I think it could very well fit in it.

I have the first chapter of the Toran fiction done, for those that are interested. Black Cat, were you referring to that when you talked about the TotS publication, or to the inns idea?

I'd like to post the fiction here as I write it, but if Black Cat wants exclusivity on the Toran piece, he can get it. Just let me know.
