Long cold wait II = 3rd edition?

I can see Matt laughing at our poor guesses!

I dunno. A MRQ version seems a bit weird at the minute, considering that too is in a state of flux, what with early indications of a different treatment of cults via the guilds factions and cults book. It would take longer than November to rewrite RQ and have a Conan version of it. Thats a huge undertaking. I cant imagine theyve been working on that kind of thing in secret either, considering the finite amount of freelancers and the fact that 2nd ed Conan books have been released at regular intervals.

It's got to be something to do with the rules. That's the only reason that makes sense to hold up printings of other books.

And then, if there so many differences that they had to put on hold new books, it doesn't bode well for the compatibility of older products.

'Tis true.

Can you think of anything else that would hold up unrelated books except for some sort of rules change/addition?

Maybe they've figured out a way to make d20 less crunchy and easier to play.

Then again...maybe not so true.

I haven't seen Paizo's Pathfinder, but I understand it's supposed to be clean-up/streamlineing of the game WITH backwards compatibility with 3.5.

My money is on some form of Conan version of Pathfinder.

As a side note, the Pathfinder complete pdf is available for free download until the 12th of August, when it ill be released, from Paizo. It looks good, a smoother version of 3.5.

... that was nearly completed a long time ago (ie years).

But as we are nearly sure there will be no system switch, I'm out of idea about why every Conan products were stopped.

May be some money issue...

Its a fact that a RQ version of Conan was written, but it would have to be rewritten as there are signs that RQ is about to go through some pretty serious modification soon.

I dont think, either, that money problems could be spinned to be something 'exciting for Conan fans in November'!

Praying for Conan/Pathfinder....

EDIT: Meaning ConanRPG made using Pathfinder rule changes, not dumbing down the classes and sorcery. I like Armor as DR etc.

If I had to make a guess, I would think that Mongoose might have finally found a way to get two Conan games out of their license with the corp that controls REH's material. So we see Mongoose release a Conan Runequest rule set, and then dual stat sourcebooks for a year or two, before finally announcing that the Conan 3.5 rpg rule set is finished.

It never ends. Please read this.

There have been some worried people believing we are going to drop the 'D20' version of Conan like a hot potato. If this is you, we are currently working on a set of Conan books that you will go dippy for and, no, you won't need to worry about changing over to another system. Vincent Darlage is currently working on this Special Project, and we'll reveal all in the next State of the Mongoose.

I, as an OGL fan, would not go "dippy" over RuneQuest Conan. It's, thankfully, not happening unless you make the effort to convert it yourself. Conan is staying 'D20'.

Honestly, if its not a new edition (Ive seen no evidence that Mongoose is THAT obnoxious) and its not RQ rules, then what could be so world shattering they cant tell us anything?

Maybe somebody who knows more can tell me, but I dont understand the kinds of secrecy that constantly are thrown up about new RPG projects. RPG books as a species are more prosaic than books that are pure fiction. There are no storylines to protect, and I cant imagine how a leaked rule could possibly "spoil" anything. Im not criticizing, Im sure there are good reasons for the blackout you have in place, its just that I am totally unable to figure it out from my position.

This is exactly the reason of this thread; I know the game stay D20 OGL and there's no reason to open a new discussion about like and dislike of this system. Mongoose decides and they have a broad range of supporters on this (even some who are a bit too fanatical). The others (that is those who don't like the system) have to accept this once and for all (or until Mongoose or anothe licencee decides otherwise).

I agree that with you on the fact that RPG projects are treated the same as if it was a secret OP. This is a bit silly because Mongoose has no concurrence on Conan as they have the licence.
I hope someone at Mongoose will tell us something, else I fear this secrecy combined with a new half-a-year wait will annoy more than one.

May be is this a test to identify really addicted people who need their fix (edit: their Conan books) twice every quartal (or at least one book every two months).

Are we waiting on November for NEWS or for a RELEASE?

News from the November State of Mongoose. Matt Sprange has said the Empires of the Hyborian Age and Thieves Companion books will be released in 2010. No idea when the Secret Project Vincent is working on will be released.

Now see I respect Mongoose and all, and Vince especially, but unless its a supplement that actually dispenses gold and jewels and ale and whores onto your lap while you read it, I dont see how I could merit such secrecy. Im sure Itll kick ass, but it is still just a rpg supplement.

OK, If its not 3rd ed, empiers, thieves could be in my opinion either Pathfinder revision based on the fact that pathfider is out next month or....

vincent is the master at regional sourcebooks...everyone has wanted Hyarkania/Turan for simply ages sooooo...

Hyrkania/Turan sourcebook...and maybe the colour map atlas of Hyboria that has been mentioned before too..?

Now that WOULD get everybodies knickers in a twist would it not....

Well maybe we should just keep asking for a update/clue as to what is up?

There is already pages upon pages of speculation and little bits from Matt Sprange about that here. This thread is a tad redundant for those purposes.

But it beats the hell out of flaming over a system change that wont happen. Besides the sqeeky gamers get greased, so if we dont have anything actualy related to the game to talk about, we might as well bug Matt.
