You know what? Im guessing its miniatures and a minis ruleset. I cant see it being a new edition. Just my guessing though.

Mongoose didn't stop production when they released the Atlantean edition after the first one.

Well, if it is a patch, perhaps it's one that changes things enough that certain elements of the other books will have to be updated as well? I hope this isn't the case, as is I like that the 2e rules are still 99% compatible with 1e and Atlantean material. Just speculating here.

Yes, maybe.

Except they've said they won't. In no uncertain terms. That doesn't make it impossible, merely highly unlikely.

I confess, I'd love to see a 'patch' that tweaks combat and tones down some feats.

I still have one of the 2e crappy bindings cause I never had time to send it back so a new edition with no binding issues would be sweet - preferably with a better cover than 2e.

I'm excited because technically the game is the same one that came out in 2004 so I think this will be the first real version change and since they are sticking to the OGL (Matt said as much) I'm excited to see some skill packages, maybe improved easier access to maneuvers, better critical hit mechanics, - in other words a sincere effort to improve a five year old system.

If there is a 3rd edition, the second wouldn't have last long. But in the end the best is when the rules doesn't change too much over the years, so that ancient material is still usable.

Dunno. I can see it holding up Empires of the Hyborian Age though. And maybe Thiefs Companion was withdrawn because of crimes against front cover art. :!:

I know King but I got the book from a rpg trade (I don't have an unlimited RPG budget!) so I just have to live with it.

I would be surprised if miniatures are in the equation for a new launch for a few reasons:

1) Mongoose once announced a miniatures Conan game then backed off.

2) Since then Mongoose has cancelled all their miniatures production

3) Mongoose has said they will stick to what they do best - rpgs.

I'm excited for a new all color rule book as well. The black & white 2e book looks terrible next to 1e/Atlantean ( I have one of the early dark print runs) Wonder what the border will contain this time out?

Indeed, 2nd edition borders are ridiculous (compared to 1st edition with a Frazetta-like big-breasts slave.

If I had to make a guess, I would think that Mongoose might have finally found a way to get two Conan games out of their license with the corp that controls REH's material. So we see Mongoose release a Conan Runequest rule set, and then dual stat sourcebooks for a year or two, before finally announcing that the Conan 3.5 rpg rule set is finished.

Or could there be a Conan Pathfinder set of rules coming out?

Just guessing, though I think the first is much more likely and probably more profitable to Mongoose in the long run.

And then, if there so many differences that they had to put on hold new books, it doesn't bode well for the compatibility of older products.

Can you think of anything else that would hold up unrelated books except for some sort of rules change/addition?

Maybe they've figured out a way to make d20 less crunchy and easier to play.



Then again...maybe not so true.

I haven't seen Paizo's Pathfinder, but I understand it's supposed to be clean-up/streamlineing of the game WITH backwards compatibility with 3.5.

My money is on some form of Conan version of Pathfinder.
