Life without TAS.

I'm loving Mongoose Traveller, and am itching to run it... my only problem is that I won't be using the default setting. So until the guys at mongoose can get the 2000ad stuff out the door, I'll make do with using background from either - Battlelords of the 23rd Century or Alternity or Space 1889.

I don't really see any problems any of those, the only thing so far is the Mustering out tables inclusion of Travellers Aid Society membership it's worth a lot and taking it out of the equation leaves me wondering what to replace it with - Stocks in a Corp (Battle-lords/Alternity), some sort of honour/knighthood (Space 1889)??

What would you guys do?

Cheers Mike

Actually, the TAS is easy for 1889 - it's right out of victorian adventure, the great age of the gentlemans club - the obvious clone would be the royal astrographicsociety...or even the TAS - I think there was a similarly named gentlemens traveller society .......

now, "life insurance" (AKA clones with playback memories) is going to be iffy...and the wafer Jacks will be BIG....diesel cyberware, anyone ?

Any form of self-help fraternity. What about Masonic societies, or Veteran's Associatons, Iluminati, ex-University colleaues, even your old buddies who you swore a blood oath with during that situation on Beta Hydri?

i havent read my alternity books for awhile but im sure theres some kinda tas equivalent in there somewhere and if not then go for either corp shares(voidtech or some other corp) or some kinda special commision with the stellar concorde(or whatever the guys who run the ligthhouse are called) would be fine, thats if u meant star drive if u mean antoehr alternity setting then im not sure.

I'd say wait for the SRD. I don't know what the TAS will be called there, but I am guessing it will not be called the Traveller Aid Society. They might call it the Aid Society (since Wizards of the Coast called Melf's Acid Arrow, Acid Arrow in the SRD and everyone understood what it was).
