Legends are Made Not Born

Hopeless

Mongoose
A recap:

The adventurers':
Lord James a Civilised Noble in line to become Baron of the vicinity of the village of Raintree,

Lady Penelope, his sister and due to acquiring a crystal blue gemstone she has set within a headband on her brow she may become the new Duchess of the Baronies of Essex,

Herne a Barbarian Woodsman who has found himself inventing csi techniques in his bronze age homeland and

Ahryk a Barbarian Blacksmith who has come into possession of some steel ingots and recently his new girlfriend was kidnapped by some unknown sorceror's minions...

NPCs:
Esther Winterbloom: Ahryk's new girlfriend and village witch who happens to be a priestess of the village cult.

Sergei the Meercat Valkyr Knight: Exactly what it says is impulsive, reckless and in charge of a walking wood and metal equivalent of a tank...

Aleksandr: Sergei's nephew and his Squire he is also the mechanic for Sergi's Valkyr and is remarkably intelligent especially when compared with his older uncle!

Nia the Lightbringer Courier: Essentially delivers the healing supplies and is one of many although evidence exists she is actually a priestess of that cult given she has far better field of knowledge than the PCs have bothered to notice.

Sir James's Father: Member of the King's advisory council a Count by noble title which his oldest son is in line to inherit seeking to make use of his remaining children with his son in line for a Barony isn't quite ruthless enough to force his daughter marry into another noble family (mostly because he doesn't hate anyone that much!) although has been left unsaid he is the Spymaster for the King whom he's actually loyal to though until that comes up won't be explained.

Sheriff Bundy Prysm: Village Sheriff and really only got his job because he was easier to manipulate by the village council. Probably the only person who suspects Esther is a witch ignoring the fact everybody else already knows as she is also a priestess. Recently kidnapped along with two members of the village council and Esther Winterbloom.

Known Villains:
Garter: A former woodsman of Herne's village was outcasted when the village council refused to believe his stories of his victim having been transformed into an Ogre by a supposed Sorceror. Has since then led a band of nomads to raid the village losing his leg to a crossbow bolt from Lord James but returned with a replacement peg leg and otherwise unharmed making an attempt to kill Lady Penelope using a stolen goblin's ritual dagger but killed the person who stumbled across him first. He later persuaded a tinker to recover the dagger and allowed him to take the fall after strangling the stableboy who witnessed the Tinker stealing the dagger back and then their sunsequent exchange in the barn only to have the Tinker's owl drop the dagger at the feet of Herne in its attempt to flee the barn.

Sorceror of Skull Mountain: Currently planned as the major bad guy of this season yet to be introduced beyond the fact he exists.

Black Helicopters: Well Ahryk's player did describe them as such and seem to be piloted by the Broo according to current description of their tracks...

Ashen Raven Meadows: Elven priestess and sole survivor of Flintlocke's group has been witnessed casting the Sunspear spell with devastating effect on the Forest Elemental from the Haunted Woods adventure, last seen leaving the area alone apparently shocked by the demise of the rest of her team.

Notes:
Sergei and Aleksandr have summoned help but given how long it will take they set out to attempt a rescue with the help of the Lightbringer Courier who believes she has found another way into the Sorceror's lair.

Background Update: Am considering establishing that in ancient times an Atlantean Sorceror cast a spell to steal all of the world's supply of Orichalcum along with the inherent magical energy and in the process rendered the substance inert creating the Mid-atlantic rift tearing his homeland apart which is why some of its ruins have been found off the short of the America's.

Millennia later a scientific experiment trying to split an element suspected of possessing unusual attributes reversed this effect causing the Mid-Atlantic Rift to close setting off Yellowstone and causing most technology to fail spectacularly.

With much of the world reduced back to the stone age in some cases it took several centuries before they managed to touch the bronze age again.
The event also created the anima causing previously unremarkable animal species to develop intelligence and whilst magic was rediscovered the anima found they lacked this ability and instead discovered their talents lay with technology developing a steampunk style culture that spread throughout the Eurasian continent.
Refugees from the continuing war between the Eurasian nations led to an anima force travelling to the island of Rhitia seeking a new home but even with the help of the Lightbringer Cult the resident humans were all but terrified of the technologically advanced anima until they accepted a quest to locate the missing heir to the Duchy of Essex something long known to be extinct as noone could find the raiments of nobility belonging to the last Duke Kassen of Essex since he died four centuries previously.
The deal was they find the duke or duchess and get them recognised as the new Duke they would become her/his vassals and therefore accepted as residents of Rhitia.
For almost thirty years they have been searching in vain... as of the morning of Monday the 2nd of July 18-- a relatively minor Valkyr Knight of their Indian refugees sent a flare declaring he had found the missing heir, immediately 6 platoons of anima forces along with a higher ranking airship transport replied...

And no I doubt any of my players read this!

Treasure Found Update:

Tarmsen Backpack holding a Potion (Heal 2), pouch with 13 silver, small handbill from an Innin Tarmsen and a note mentioning the upcoming raid on the village of Raintree indicating the attack was planned at least a month ahead of the owner of the backpack descending within Kassen's crypt.

Azad's Greatsword: Belonging to the nemesis of the (very) late Duke Kassen of Essex is a Steel Greatsword enchanted with Bladesharp 1 currently in the possession of Ahryk the Blacksmith

Azad's Chain Mail armour: Enchanted Chain mail coat with Leg Greaves enchanted with Protection 1 and designed so the armour penalty is treated as 1pt less per location it covers. Currently being worn by Lord James.

Enchanted Kite Shield: enchanted with Protection 1, currently being used by Herne the Woodsman

Orichalcum Goblin's Dagger: A ritual weapon designed for blood magic use currently in the possession of Herne the Woodsman.

Elemental Gemstone: A crystal blue gem currently inset into a headband worn by Lady Penelope and grants the user the ability to summon and control a water elemental but most importantly serves as part of Duke Kassen's raiments and the most recognisable part.

Poseidon's Horn: A divine item used to create fog the party has no idea what this does nor that its a valuable Cult artefact.

Tarmsen Grimoire: Not identified as of yet.

Tarmsen Staff: acts as Disruption spell except the effect is like small balls of flame being issued from the staff tip.

Norse Scroll of Lore: Bears Armoursmith's Boon 1 given to Ahryk by Esther Winterbloom and I'm not saying why!

Pouch of Holding: A small money pouch thats been enchanted so it can hold up to 50lbs of small goods, but certainly not enchanted kite shield's as its current possessor Herne the Woodsman found out!

Orichalcum Vambracers: Acts as Bronze scale mail protection for the arms acts as power stones able to hold an as yet undetermined number of magic points and hasn't been claimed... yet

4 Steel Ingots: Recovered from Kassen's crypt currently in the possession of Ahryk the Blacksmith who has yet to learn how to make use of these items.

Silver Ring: Actually grants either a water dweller the ability to move onland or a land dweller the ability to breath underwater but has to be worn to work. The druid arranged this so that in return for the vial of pure water the nixie would be released from the confines of the pond.

Sacred Breastplate: Stainless Steel Plate Breastplate is enchanted with Protection 1 and has the ability to absorb all fire damage harmlessly to its wearer and fire magic specifically would be converted into reoplacement magic points. Like Azad's Chainmail its armour penalty is treated as 1 point less.

Vial of Pure Water: Looks like a small decanter and is essentially a Heal 6 Potion that can be recharged by refilling with water and then blessed by a member of the Lightbringer Cult.

Codex of the Firmament: originally a form of grimoire that was torn apart leaving only a few scroll pages left within a bone scrollcase. It is written in gaelic and bears the spells Bladesharp, Light and Elemental Summoning.

Earth's Ire: A red clay wand that allows Disruption spells to be cast

Spirit Staff: A shamanic staff with a Power 14 spirit which can be used to summon an elemental should the summoner be slain before dispelling their summoning the elemental will be bound to the area its been summoned within.

Does anyone know if a Plate Hauberk can exchange its chest plate with a Plate Breastplate?

Apparently I've been misreading a character sheet if Ahryk is actually spelt Ihryk!

I would say no. A plate hauberk would (I imagine, though I am not an armorer) have the plates actually attached to the hauberk.

Wikipedia indicates Hauberks apparently have sleeves!

Plate in legend does not come in Hauberk style (or for that matter historically) . That style is for 'flexible' armours like chain mail, scale mail. Plate comes in separate parts, greaves, vambraces, 'skirt', Breastplate, helm. Its in the RQ2 and legend books, page 96 legend, page 65 RQ2

If one of the PCs is a blacksmith, and both the armors fit. It doesn't take a lot of work to switch out the plates.

Assuming the magic plates can be worked like regular steel, that is.

The character in question is a blacksmith and the replacement breastplate is steel but the rest of his hauberk is bronze though ala bronze age.

Firstly I suggest you take a look at 'hauberk' in Google. First item is wikipedia and gives a history of the hauberk. Second is a set of images of a hauberk. Third item shows you how to make one.

In none of those does any 'plate' make it's appearance.

The hauberk of Legend is armour that covers the chest and abdomen as do the pieces of armour shown and described in the google links. Normally a hauberk is chain, but the term has been co-opted in Legend to include leather, ringmail and scale as well.

Real life armour is way more complex than that used in Legend and was usually layered with a padded arming coat under mail to prevent chafing. Over the top could be a coat of plates (see Arms of Legend for Brigandine which is closest in Legend terms. Lastly could be a steel breastplate and possibly backplate held in place with straps. Metal plates covering the elbows and knees with vambraces, rerebraces, cops, chausses, schynbalds and articulated hand and foot coverings made up the rest of a suit of armour that is what that other FRPG calls platemail.

My recommendation is to allow the breastplate to provide AP 6 to his chest and ignore any underlying chain etc. The breastplate is held in place with straps so if the breastplate is lost to a fumble the straps have broken but at least the underlying chain is ok.
