Anyway, to stop this outrage, I propose that Mongoose release a white cover where you get a set of pencils, then you can draw your own cover.

Or maybe release a set of stickers! I can see a new concept in publishing..

I also very much prefer this black cover, since it doesn't look juvenile. Obviously some good art would be great, but I appreciate that such things cost time and money. And in general, bad art is worse than no art. That goes for the interior too! I'd much rather look at nicely typset text on a white background, with no halftone images behind the text or elaborate headers and footers.

Just for the sake of amusing, check these covers from the Spanish 3rd edition. The first one is Snakepipe Hollow, the second is the basic rulebook (second printing).

For various reasons, we like the cover of the rulebook a great deal, and we will be keeping it.

However, that doesn't mean we can't offer an alternative for those who don't like it. What about something like this;

You know, this could be really great!
The lower part looks a bit bland though. Why not add something there? Something simple. Some kind of Glyph or something. Maybe the little fire from the other legend logo? And you could probably still enhance it, if you would print the name and glyph in some sort of metallic look. Maybe gold? Would also look good on some sort of faux-leather printing, I suppose...

... oh, wait! I must have missed something there. ;-)

But for what it's worth, I really liked the look of the old RQ books and will be sure to complete my collection before they will no longer be available. I could never understand what peoples issues were with those. Art is in the eye of the beholder, but simple text on leather is just classy and timeless.

That's the bones of something that actually looks classy. It wouldn't take much, put the Mongoose logo on it, maybe something simple in silhouetted art on the front (black on charcoal grey) and a simple bit of blurb on the back and you have something distinct.

Ok its purple prose but you get the idea. The original cover looked like a cheap (and basically nasty) imitation of every other rpg out there. It says "we're bargain basement so why not give us a try."The special edition cover says "I'm a little book, I don't cost a lot but I've got big ideas."

I know which one would attract my attention.

I think it makes sense to have a design that hearkens back to the RQII covers, signifying the continuity of the game/ruleset. I for one really like the RQII design and am proud to have those books on my shelf.

On the None-More-Black cover, "Legend" is too high up, it makes it look like a restaurant menu. Bring "Legend" down a bit, add in a nice 'something' in the middle, and you've got a winner.

That Limited Edition cover is EXACTLY what I am talking about. Simple and elegant. I would only add border of runic symbols/writing (non-RQ) in matching silver color across the very top and very bottom, not totally unlike the current Legend cover. Of course, I would like to see this in a normal hardcover book as well, lol, with the black actually being leather and the lettering silver foil. Hey I can dream can't I ?[/quote]

I like the simple and elegant cover much better than the goofball character art one. (I don't object to character art, or to boobies, I just think that first Legend cover fails. A cover using something like that hoplite piece posted earlier in the thread would be cool, too. THAT one is full of awesome, rather than fail.)

That would certainly attract my niece - I think she's a little young for RQ at the moment though, I'll have to wait at least until she can read...

They do capture the essence of broo, though.
