Legend Compatible

Mongoose
Hi All!

I have been working on a Sandbox environment I want to make available as a free download, at some point in the near future.

What all do I need to attach to the document so as to not infringe on anyone's rights? I will add the OGL License at the end of the pdf booklet but in keeping with the Legend theme, I want to add the Black Cover and Legend Logo, just with the Legend Compatible proviso in place.

The best way to handle this would most probably be
to contact Matthew Sprange of Mongoose Publishing.

You have to comply with the terms of the Open Game License - which means that you need to attach a copy of the licence to your work and update Section 15 to list all of the works that you used Open Game Content from.

You also need to clearly identify what parts of your work are designated as Open Game Content and which parts are Product Identity. (During the d20 boom, some publishers - *cough* White Wolf *cough* - deliberately made this statement as vague as possible to avoid allowing third-parties to reuse material from their books while technically complying with the license . However, this was widely regarded as dishonest practice).

Also, if you want to indicate compatibility with the Legend game system and use the Legend logo on your work, you need to comply with the license available on the Mongoose site - http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/leglogopack.zip

Note that while this license doesn't prohibit you from copying the "look and feel" of official Mongoose books, it is probably not something that Mongoose will want to encourage - they don't want too much confusion between what are "official" Legend rulebooks and what are third-party publications. As the previous poster indicated, check with Matt if you want to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advise guys, I will definitely follow the suggestions.

It is my intention to have this as a fan-made, fantasy sandbox without stepping on toes or any funny business. Completely transparent as a fan-made piece of work. It is a small town set in a homemade fantasy world with some standard races and monsters and some added adventure hooks and embellished adventures at a later stage.

At some point, I plan on running my group through the same setting.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will try get this out as soon as I can.

So far, I have a town at the edge of the "civilized" world, part of a larger kingdom but still, largely, left to fend for itself. A border land rich in mineral wealth but far from many creature comforts and surrounded by potential enemies.

Actually this looks well worth picking up as I'm currently trying to work out something very similar to this in a Legend game I'm currently running!

Here is a short summary of my Sandbox Project, mainly revolves around the frontier town of Syrth and the surrounding lands and people. Please feel free to ask questions.

A short hint:

The Land of Ice
The harsh wind whips right through your cloak, as if it were nothing but merest gauze. Snow strikes at your face and you’re sure that these flakes are cutting through your very skin, slashing the exposed flesh like so many tiny daggers. This weather is not fit for man or beast, yet tonight, you venture forth, into the very maw of the blizzard. Your friends await you tonight, at the Bloody Cudgel; there is much drinking to be done.

Introduction to the Town of Syrth
The coastal town of Syrth, is a successful, growing town on the north-western coast of Llorand. Best known for its proximity to the Aurinn Hills and the raw mineral wealth mined there, Syrth is a walled town that attracts her share of adventurous and unsavoury types. As the northernmost settlement claimed by the Silvertip family and the Gryphon Throne, Syrth has a strong naval and military presence. Also, situated, as it is, at the northern mouth of the Silverbream River allows for easy transportation of ore and other, raw materials, from the Hills to the docks.

Syrth is the only settlement of significant size on the northern coast of Llorand, ruled by the Grand Duke Karrick, an uncle to the King. The town is of enormous strategic importance to the Gryphon Throne and features heavily in their plans. The town is growing at a steady rate due to the vast wealth from natural resources. However, there is the constant threat from Giant-kin, marauding monsters and native Barbarian tribes.
The folk who have made Syrth their home, tend to be a hardy, jovial lot who enjoy living at the edge of the world far from civilization.

So far I have chosen the following Player Races for this Project; Centaur, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Human and Minotaur. I really like a Shifter option and still tinkering with the concept, as well as the Pantothaurs from RuneQuest 6, mind you!

Cheers,

Darrel

Big problem for me has actually been artwork. Now I am just going to leave artwork out ...

I'm sure if you say what you need here someone will step up and contribute or you could sign up to deviantArt or Elfwood and ask for contributions (artists LOVE to have their work shown off after all).

Alternatively you could try some of the numerous Public Domain and open source clip art sites as you are creating a non profit project.

Thanks Matt_H, I will certainly give it a try.

I, finally, have a version of my Basic Sandbox ready for review. It is a fantasy setting "homebrew" and I will add to it over time.

The file is accessible here: http://www.4shared.com/office/Cm0UDDdb/Asharkund.html

Please let me know what you think?
