Kzinti Timescale

But question: Do you want game to succeed or fail?

From your actions guess you want it to fail.

Hmm...let's see, invested that much money in the game, still spending...I'm recruiting players, going to be running demos at semi-local stores, and convention games on my dime. Guess I want it to fail huh? You fail in comprehension.

But you're right, I should just stop complaining and bend over and take what I'm given and be grateful for the slow slow service. Maybe those new players will just say gee, great game, too bad you can't get miniatures for it without waiting months, and move on to something else.

I want the game to succeed. But the problems with Mongoose won't go away if people don't complain.

but $600 is about 3 pence isn't it ;-)

joking aside, yes complain, but be constructive man, you come accross as VERY negative. If you order stuff that doesn't arrive, if you have paid for it as well, then you have rights on your side, prod the Goose with the law if needs be, but going on.. and on...and on on the forum isn't helping anyone.

Again all I wanted was an update to a possible release date. Please stop moaning about things.

So thanks for that Matt, narrowing it down to, where you are is helpful, but not exactly what I wanted, any chance of a week to guide me on my pre-order?

I don't want to clash with my holiday is my fear, as the product would end up being sent back, after sitting at the post office for too long.

Hi Matt, any update on the timescale for the Kzintis?

Production moulds being finished this week, all going well - then it is into the main manufacturing! We have to take care of a few other things (like making sure ADB has a decent stock of the miniatures they have a partnership in), but watch this space, as it won't be long now!

Oh, and apparently the first of the new Gorn ships is already on its way to both us here in the UK and ADB, so they are chugging along too.

Is this Gorn prototypes or the finished metal models in a format you can sell?

In all the kerfuffle I can't remember what the production models were going to be, are the final ones significantly changed from the ones in the rulebook?

Whilst I'm not a mongoose rep...
I suspect Matt has been pushed away from giving any more specific guestimates by the aggressive camp. It seems at the moment that whenever any unexpected events do force a change in timescales, we have a body or people ready to jump on him, and the more specific a guesstimate is, the smaller the slip in timescale would have to be to set them off. Under such situations, I'd be deliberately vague until I have the goods physically in my hands too...

I would hold off making any statements before I would have enough supply to cover estimated need times five...

Yeah, hence offering to grab a squadron if there are some at Mongoose towers (but not sufficient stock to start sending everything out).

Bad idea to even say that much. If there's even one box shortage there all hell will break loose.

I don't want to give a strict date yet, as you never know what might happen, but you won't be waiting long.

As a guide, we are hoping to have at the end of July tournament (though not necessarily in the shops) all the Kzinti, all the Gorn, much of the 'civvie' stuff, and a few brand new things not yet announced.

That is what we are aiming for.

The first metals (the Destroyer and Dreadnought, actually) arrived today, metal casts, not prototypes. Still need production moulds doing, but they exist!

We can all certainly agree we like the game and are rooting for its' success.

I think we can all agree that there are not so many of us and the game is not so widely played (wouldn't it be nice to have 25% of FOW's playing base?) that we can afford to slag each other off.

To one degree or another we are all aware there have been and remain legitimate issues with the production/order/delivery cycle and things could and ultimately will get better. My own personal perception is that whatever is run out of Mongoose HQ moves fairly smoothly and Matt can control the timing. What comes directly out of Ohio is a lot sketchier which is as much due to a 3500 mile control/communication gap as anything and to the degree it can be controlled, I expect it to get better.

That said, I think it is not unreasonable for folks to complain about the order/delivery process and that at the same time, should understand that this is a reasonably small organization (as is 98% of the miniatures gaming universe) and stuff happens. I do not have a problem with reasonable documented issues and just because Company X took 11 years to produce their Spaceships of the War of Spanish Succession line, doesn't per se mean that anything under 11 years is great. The converse that I've seen here is that errata happens, it happens to everyone and changes to the rule book are not the end of the world or the stigmata of a bad product.

There has to be a balance where issues of concern can be genuinely expressed without charges of whinging while at the same time, we all recognize that this is after all, a challenging process to deliver a game with two companies 4000 miles apart sharing responsibility and a production/shipping center at a third site.

Do be aware that both companies are trying hard to get distribution and quality issues under control. This shakedown period is hard on not only the companies, but on you, the customer. Of course we wish that everything worked smoothly out of the gate, but such wishes are rarely granted and we forgot to give the fairy godmother in charge of joint ventures an appropriate gift. :(

What is important is that you all agree the game is sound at the heart and you are giving us a chance to get things straight. You may never know how much we appreciate you and your good will, but we very greatly do. Each week Matthew and Steve make progress on getting things closer to what we want to have happen.

We appreciate your patience and your letting us know where we need to focus our efforts.

Jean

I meant were the wild side Gorn used, because I'll plump for a fleet of them if they are. The smooth Gorn just aren't visually interesting enough for me, and I'll go for some more Klingons (and maybe some Romulans) or a mixed squadron box (and then hit the swap thread hard) to ditch Kzinti and get Tholians.

Having seen the mobile base and large freighter, they actually look really good. I was worried that the civilian stuff was going to be boring, but I'm looking forward to painting up the mobile base to the point of converting over an SFB scenario with one in and emailing it to Matt, so I've got an excuse to get one.

I pretty much buy everything but with two fleet releases im tapped financially, it would be worth my time to see if the new ships are so cool that i need to forgo some lesser projects.

Will you be going to the tournament anyway?

I'm thinking of doing a tournament in Birmingham in the autumn (but want to wait till the uni wargames society starts up again before organising it). Depends where in the country you are.
