Kind Request To "Powers That Be" About Playtest

Grunvald

Mongoose
This is just a kind request to the powers that be!

Mainly the guys (or gals) in charge of mongoose!

Would you please please PLEASE, let us know when the next update of the play test rules is likely to occur!

As we have been discussing and trying out various ideas and rules from V1.1 and are now quietly waiting to hear about any results so we can carry on testing and discussing!

Many thanks Grunvald!!!! :)

<Grolsch Ad> Stop. Whatt are you doing? This supplement is not ready...</Grolsch Ad>

Sounds good news. And it looks like those folks who wrote the new Legend of the Five Rings stole your proof readers. From what my other half has been complaining about it sounds pretty inept.

QFT

I hate seeing projects that are pushed to completion before they are really ready.

People always give Blizzard crap for taking forever and a day to release their games, but ya know what? Every game they have done has been a hit. And finished. (Well, finished compared to their competition).

Thanks, it is nice to know at least that they are doing something!

Think what people are waiting for is to know if they are heading in the right direction with proposed ideas and testing! :)

From the powers that be themselfs.

Taking the Blizzard stance I believe is a good idea.

Patience is a virtue and if you want something done right take your time and do it right!

The big issue is that there is an awful lot of debate and precious little playtesting going on (at least playtesting that is being reported).

Some of the bigger comments are being taken on board but most of the rest won't change until

a) there is a consensus on an idea
b) what is in the pack released has been playtested and shown not to work (for whatever reason)

A lot of the debate on Space Stations was that what was given wouldnt work, no limits way way WAY too broken, even if playtested!

we will go and playtest rules when we know what to playtest!

I would agree that the space stations are compleyely and totally broken and do not need testing - everyone agrees on this - a new version is needed which can then be tested.

Sadly, the present rules will be banned by everyone (including MGP tourneys) shortly after release.................

Granted, space stations are one of the few things that everyone does agree on and the next iteration of rules already has progress. This is one of the areas that could be updated now with little penalty.

However, many of the ship tweaks (e.g. the White Star) and the AoL fleet, I'm not sure I've seen more than one playtest on them but have read dozens of pages of comments - most of which aren't even saying the options as presented are broken/unbalanced, just saying that it's not what they would have done.

however in defence of the armchair general, every man and his dog could see that gaim were broken. some things can be quite obvious. Others obviously not noticed until you play

And, in the case of the WS nerf, I don't need to play it to know that it doesn't work because:

a) Most players I've seen using WhiteStars (myself included) don't put themselves in harms way so never use the pulsars except to defend against fighters
b) The proposed change just encourages those players who did get in close to use their pulsars not to do so.

The nett effect of this is just to encourage more ISA players to stand off at 18" on the side/rear arcs where they cannot be touched, so IMHO, nothing has changed.

Dave

on a slight positive, it does prevent those people closing blast doors, so you do remove a small amount of the cheese.

thats my point against it entirely. I used to bring WSs in closer for secondaries but why would I bother now.

As Foxmeister said its encouraging the wrong kind of play style(Hey we do agree on something :) ). I do get the WS up close and personal and they have died (many many many times) because of it. Why should I ever get within 10" now? I tried using this nerf in a game and I may as well have not fired my beams at all, within 10" my pulsars dinged his ships for some damage here and there but my beams did almost nothing at all and surprise surprise he lost 1 raid ship (out of a 6pt raid fleet) and I lost my entire fleet.

I posted a new proposal that sort of reversed the nerf, you only get to fire full beam AD if the pulsars also fire that turn with the stipulation that if the pulsars can't target anything you can't count them as fired (so people aren't just shooting off into empty space to take advantage of a loophole). This basically forces a Whitestar to 10" to do any real damage and fixed the CBD problem too (if you CBD and fire the beam since the pulsars didn't fire you only get 1AD). Unfortunately it was kinda buried in the rapid posting and was also considered a nerf(despite the fact that the WS is going to get a nerf regardless so I don't know what the problem was) so it was quickly swept under the rug.

I tried.

So the nerf is in place because 1AD TD beam is too little, but 2AD TD is too much.

Whats wrong with 2AD Double Damage?
