Just got back from GenCon - 2 observations

Soulmage

Mongoose
1- The BFE models are pretty small. Hadn't really realized that from the pics.

2 - They look great. I never saw any of the original Wave 1s in person. . . but these models were very nice and yes, they are better than 80% - 90% of what a lot of folks can paint. My wife is an amazing painter and could blow these out of the water, as I'm sure many others here could. . . but these looked better than the overwhelming majority of the armies I see across the game table.

Mongoose have dropped that claim now, did anyone else notice it no longer says 'Expertly painted models in ever set' on the BF:E section of the site?
Now it just says painted :D (it'll save alot of hassle I think, at least everyone irrespective of their brush skills can agree that they are painted).

What was Gencon like? Spill the beans

Well my GenCon was mostly about playing some naval wargames, doing some shopping, and trying out a few new systems like D12 WWII and D12 Fantasy. . . but I didn't think most people would care about that. . . :)

GenCon was awesome as usual. Ate at The Ram a lot had a fabulous dinner with 2 other couples at Bupo de Beccas (or something like that) a nice Italian place where we ate too much food and drank several liters of wine before heading to Alcatraz to do some more drinking and playing of various card games.

Bought a lot of cool stuff in the awesomely huge vendor hall (really. . . anything you could ever want that was gaming related. . .)

Attended the D&D Q&A to hear about the 4E release.

Anyway. . . if you are a gamer and can afford it in any way shape or form. . . even if it takes you a few months to pay it off. . . you OWE IT TO YOURSELF to attend GenCon! There is nothing like the experience of all gaming all the time right at your fingertips. . . but a real treat is the way GenCon takes over the whole of Downtown Indy and creates this huge feeling of community there. We all commented on it at various times. It was very nice and made for a great mini-vacation where I completely forgot about work!

Let's not confuse people that have not been to Gen Con. IF and I say IF you are a Fantasy, Sci-Fi, RPG, or even a boardgamer then Gen Con is a great Con for you.

IF you are like myself mainly a Historical Gamer, then Gen Con should be avoided like the plague.

That is a good point. There is some historical gaming at GenCon, but not nearly as much as there is at more historically oriented Cons. Origins has quite a bit of historicals IIRC, but its been a few years since I've been.

:D
That sounds freaking awesome!
Hmmm maybe I could start saving right now, if the exchange rate holds it could even end up saving me money

The Lynx and Cobra were in the display case at the booth and they looked pretty good.

GenCon for me was very tiring but good all around. Picked up both sets of templates from the GF9 booth so those should be fun next week at my game.

I had fun at Gencon, as well as Origins. I did a couple of demos of BF:E while at Gencon, but I was there mostly to relax and have fun. I worked most of the time at Origins. I would agree that Origins is more of a historical con than Gencon. I also like the room layout there better, this year due to the construction the minis games were in different smaller rooms. I felt like we were isolated. At Origins we had a whole HALL!

I like the helicopters after seeing them up close. They were smaller than *I* like, but will fit the table nicely.

I also liked the flying stand on Alex's jet proxy. It'll definitely get used hovering over my troops. :)

Any news or hints as to the future of the game? I love the game, but after seeing and reading that there is another big annoucement waiting in the wings (we all know how well the first one went...) I am very concerned.

I know it's late but I've been a bit busy. :D

The following is a thread on EvoCommand about GenCon. It has a some discussion on the Evo tourney and some pics by nezeray.
