Jump drive size reduction due to tech increase

I don't think this is a thing in MgT2e, but in other editions the prototype jump drives didn't have Jump Regulators. So a J2 drive didn't jump 1 OR 2. They Jumped 2. Not 0. Not 1. Just 2. Every time.

So that could be a fun thing to put on a TL 10 J2 as a disadvantage

That's not quite how it worked in CT. You COULD make shorter jumps, but without a jump governor (introduced in High Guard) you always used the fuel for the full drive rating.

It's mentioned as still being a thing in Starship Operator's Manual, but mostly in the context of something that might break... and working as you say (which is also how T5 does it), with the ship having to aim at a 100D jump shadow (the star's one would be simplest and less prone to overshot) in order to make the shorter jump. But still using all the fuel.

As far as any prototech, yep. I agree that it's too early for their Jump Governors to have been developed. Good limiter.
