Agree with the sentiment that we don't need hundreds more plans and stats for scouts and free traders. I want to see all the other civillian craft out there; analogous to the oil well, oil rig tender, ice-breaker, salvage ship, beacon/buoy tender, cable laying ship, seabed mining ship, etc etc.

What are the 5000AD versions of these civillian ships?

Agree 110%.

... rescue ships, hospital ships, casino ships, circus ships, embassy ships,
museum ships ... all the expensive institutions a small colony cannot af-

not reasonable (the jubilee, the duke's visit ...) ... stadium ship when the

yet have a stadium of the right size and technology for the gravball ga-

Darrians has a Rapid Response Rescue Vessel
Traders & Gunboats has the Sanatorium Hospice Boat

Those might work for a couple of those.

I also included (amongst others) a mobile dockyard in Darrians and a large-scale tug, but unfortunately both these were cut in the final draft. I drafted a botanical garden ship and a super luxurious hotel ship in Dilettante too, but they were cut as well. The rock-band tour ship made it in though.

So personally I'm trying to include more unusual civilian vessels in my Traveller assignments, but a combination of page count and art costs sadly prevent many of them from reaching print.

Is there any chance to see them published anywhere else, perhaps in
Signs & Portents ? :D

It's a shame when that happens, good work going to waste. Maybe they could be done as a Signs & Portents article?

I've been trying to do some that aren't covered as well (including a casino ship).

Matt already suggested that. I'll try and squeeze in a more rounded article for S&P after I finish SpellCom. It'll give a chance for Darrians to percolate and give the article more relevance.

I've found over the years that high quality external views can actually be more important than deck plans. Of course, I prefer to have both. :)

*scratches head* alright, so there is definite demand for ships with deck plans. if one thing is clear, it's that. I'm seeing more interest for warp ships. That does make sense since most of the books being published now do have ships in them.

However a civilian ship book also sounds good as well. I'll have to figure out how much I can do for next year.

Just a note of possible interest, I like doing deckplans for unusal ships. :)

Whether outside shapes (like modules) or just unusual requests of ship types.

Deckplans can really help set the tone for the game depending on much action (interaction) takes place on the ship(s ).

Ah useful to know, hence my deckplans have both.

My 3D image is very close to the 2D map (check out SnP last 2 issues etc... - gratuitious hornblowing.. )

Civvie ships: now that info is very handy, armed with that I can see what I can do next... (Currently in dry dock I've a military ship, a research cruiser and a 100t small craft - a civvie too...)

Indeed, and very good deckplans, too - highly recommended. :D

Floor plans take a while to produce or are expensive to pay a designer to draw them.
This is exactly why why I would buy a book; I can easily do stats and descriptions myself. I cannot as easily do drawings and plans.

Yep - interesting specs for ships are good, as supplements to other material, but starship centric material needs more going for it.

Speadsheets and even custom programs exist to make starship spec design so automated, it is a breeze for many (my own allow me to do numerous 'what-ifs' for tonnage and features).

2D and 3D starship design requires time and talent that is a lot more in demand...

While I would like deck plans for each and every ship. I am not too concerned about having them on the 1.5x1.5 meter grid size unless characters are really going to engage in personal combat on that ship. I like having deckplans even in capital ships to get an idea of how long it takes for characters/crew to get from one end to another. Like if internal communication is out or areas have been exposed to vacuum (My God, how will we get to the life pod! )

I voted very important as to be fair, I'd be annoyed if a ship was statted and there was no floorplan, especially if it had something unique in there that I might want to use in a custom ship's deckplan.

I like my ships with inertialess drives, and flashing bus bars. ;) I don't know whether there are enough others like me to justify a book, though.
