ISA: Why no Victory-based designs?

I was looking over the ships available for ISA and it struck me: Why are all of them, save the Victory, are nothing more than oversized White Stars? In my opinion, the ISA fleet would certainly look much better and would have a more consistent "style" if the cruisers, carriers, and frigates where based off the Victory.

That's a good point.

The Victory sort of looks out of place when you surround it with all the White Star variants.

The Victory is a rather nice model, I bought mine when it was a Gen Con exclusive several years ago. I could easily picture some variants built on that hull. A super-carrier variant would be nice, something that could put out a lot of Starfuries and Thunderbolts in a single turn. Perhaps even an assault variant with lots of shuttles and troops and ISA seems to lack any real ground assault or boarding capablilities. Maybe cheaper (War level) version that swaps out the expensive prototype Lightning Cannon for some more reliable Heavy Lasers or Neutron Lasers.

That brings up a good point, have we ever seen the whitestars actually with the Victory?

i think the the ISA's ships should represent joint ventures between various member races.

so there may be a Narn/Vree gunship that combines vree manuverability with Narn e-mine weaponry, and heavy armor. or something like an Minbari/Drazi ship that has a drazi hull, with minbari weaponry and deploys white star fighters instead of sky serpents.

As it is all the ISA's ships were built by the Minbari with the exception of the Victory which was built to minbari specs by Earth. at some point i'd expect the other races to want some of those government contracts, for themselves.

Remember, the Victory and Excalibur where the two prototypes for there class, and the facilities that were used to make them were destroyed, so they couldn't build any more. And it took them however many years it was between Season 5 B5 and Crusade to get them working.

Well as I've said numerous times I've ALWAYS hated the concept of 'Hmmm we need some more ISA ships' 'I know, lets make a slightly different sized whitestar and stick a different naval designation after it!' mentality that seems to have been behind all the ISA stuff in Armageddon. It would have been far better to make some completely new desings or just use the ones show on the show like the Bluestar, and LoTR ships (and yes I know theyre apparently coming in ACTA 2.0 but its just another example of something that could have been done right in the first place).

Well the first incarnation of the T'Rakk in S&P was SM. :D

If memory serves, there was a website that featured some very nice looking fan-conceived ISA ships that were modeled after the Victory. The trouble is I forget the URL. I'll Goggle around and see if I can find it.

Yes. In one episode of Crusade a ranger delivers intel on a dead planet to the Excalibur. He arrives by White Star.

And in the end of call to arms She was flanked by 2 Whitestars outside B5

Now that I recall she fought with several Whitestars in "The Pirkinning".
ROFL! Not quite sure that counts as "canon" though

Hey what's wrong with In the Pirkinning and it's fat white stars  It's perfect canon!

Heh heh.

"Fire twinklers and light balls!" "I thought you said light beer..."
:)

"Lightballs? What lightballs?"

"Are our twinklers flashlights?" (that phrase, or however it went word to word, btw made me think that somebody in that design team plays WH40k with infamous lasgun=flashlight jokes running in WH40k forums).

Great movie. Always makes me laugh when I watch it.

Interesting point design team btw pointed out...Did the view from C&C ever rotate in B5 as it does in the pirkinning? Guess visual effects on B5 production weren't up for that(though I would imagine that would have been relatively easy visual effect to produce...Though albeit does add extra worklayer to do which might be killer for their schedeludes).

Yes it did. Theres only a very few shots showing the rotation and Ive no idea as to what episodes to look for them in, but they do exist.

What the Frak movie are you talking about amnyways?

I did like the idea I originally had for the 'White Star Carrier' when it was announced, which was basically a Victory variant designed to be a mobile fleet carrier with bays for a half dozen White Stars. Not sure how this would work out in proper scale, though.

Just watch Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning.

Great. I'll be ordering the DVDs post haste. Thank you all very much.
