Considering that the RPGsuite newsletter gave a fairly informative into to it's Traveller Digital Character sheet, and announced that the new Traveller lease starts in the "Fourth Quarter 2015", I would say that it is patently obvious from the rules they informed us on that Mongoose Traveller would be mostly sticking with the rules as is. It won't be a T5 thing at all, aside from maybe a few subsystems being compatible here and there. .
 
Gee...that was a subtle hint. You realise that if nothing materialises next Friday there will be trouble :D

(EDIT: Also, I get paid on Fridays. And what I'd really love to see is the simultaneous release of a new edition of Traveller AND the promised Third Imperium sourcebook. But I expect that I will be at least partly disappointed...)
 
Two quick questions about the (rumoured) upcoming edition:

  • Will it be released in digest size like the Legend product line? As much as I love full-sized hardcovers, I've fallen in love with the convenience of this form factor at the game table. And it nicely hearkens back to the LLBs of yore...
  • What will the new edition mean for third-party publishers? Will there be an update to the SRD so that they can produce material compatible with the new edition, or will the rules changes in the new edition be off-limits to third-party publishers?
  • Is that a new Traveller logo on the Mongoose homepage? It's remarkably reminiscent of Blake's 7 - which is a good thing in my book :)

Oh cool, thy are going to release that masterwork Commercial Starships by their new up and coming genius...probably not...just some thing to hold over the masses while it is perfected to perfection...ya know something totally uninteresting like a shiny new core book..I mean who wants that :D :P

Slow day in general :D

Ignore my silliness. I'm prone to make strange comments at random some days. The commercial starships is my first project that's been accepted. So I am sort of chomping at the bit to see how it does.

I'm actually more excited to see what they have been working on for a while.

Rumours that we brought the leading 3rd party publishers in very early on to help steer this new project (whatever it may be) might not be entirely unfounded.

So. . . Any opinions on what the announcement will be?

a) A new 2nd edition rule set, integrating, clarifying, and streamlining published rules for characters generation and a single design system for all vehicles from bicycles to super dreadnaughts?

b) An all new Official Traveller Universe which breaks away from the 3rd Imperium history, featuring new alien races and updated star system generation rules that more closely match current science?

c) An ultra-high technology add-on to allow TLs of 30+?

d) A computerized game interface that will automate everything from character generation, random encounters, spaceship design, to interstellar trade allowing for both solo play and online group adventuring?

e) The creation of a new Traveller MMORPG?

f) All of the above?
