Introduce yourself and how long...

I know many of you from Tower of the Sun or project aon... but many I don't know and would like to.

So give a brief intro to your lone wolf experience and when you first read them.

Myself, I read the books back when I was 10 or so, one of the few people who started with the novels (though I only ever read the first one... Simey! I'm reading the one you sent me before school starts again!)

I collected most of them over the course of many years, hard to do in the US, and was ecstatic when I found project aon. I've been involved in internet Lone Wolf activities since 2003, maybe earlier. I started with the LWERPG, moved on to project aon, and have been a regular at Tower of the Sun for the last two years.

I'm currently making my way through the aon books again, last book I completed was Dungeons of Torgar. I'm also hosting a game on the LWRPG online.

And, for those who are interested, I've written a couple gamebook supplements for the LW series. I made a couple of the fights more epic, adding about 50 sections to them. If you're interested, check them out here:

I'm a total newb to LW, since I only had discovered it perhaps in early '06 through www.gamebooks.org which referenced Project Aon. I grew up with Choose Your Own Adventure and a single Fighting Fantasy book (Forest of Doom), but had never heard of LW here in the States. :?
Recently I had acquired mint copies of 3 Conan-themed gamebooks and have found them to be quite enjoyable as well.

I was fascinated and delighted by Mr. Dever's clever use of game mechanics, and not just instructing the reader to turn to this page or that. It was a remarkable innovation to this under-appreciated genre of interactive fiction! I think as a "community" we should encourage the rebirth of this genre, and hopefully LW fans will explore outward, collecting and reading other gamebooks.

I have been an avid Lone Wolf fan since I was a kid, when the books first came out. Some of my best childhood memories revolve around things like killing my first darklord, finding the sommersword, and then SO upset losing it in Castle Death. :(

I am really psyched about the re-release of the books but of course more excited about the release of the post grandmaster books. Speaking of which, if they go in sequential order that means we'll be waiting a LONG time for those right?

I found LW in my early teens, at a time when I was confused about who I was and my place in life (I had recently been told I was adopted - a shocking blow to a 12-year-old). I took to heart the life messages that JD buried in the books, trying to live up to them to make myself a better person.

I'm fairly certain my first book was Jungle of Horrors, though I obtained 8 thru 12 in quick succession (and not, I'm sure, in order), and the passage of about 20 years has blurred my memory.

I am a late-comer to the online LW community, having been a member of Tower of the Sun for the last year.

I am looking forward to the time (in the not-too-distant-future) that I can properly introduce my eldest daughter to the wonderful creation that is Aon.

I'm Hawkeye from TotS if anyone didn't notice that already, and this is my first post here.

I found LW at the age of 13 or so, in secondary school or high school as some of you called it. And got hooked ever since.

Did a search online, a few years back, found PA, TotS and Mongoose. And all I can say is, it's good to be back.

Oh yeah, I've just put in my order for Book 1, a few mins ago. Woot!!!!

Hi, I used to be Daveyspawn here and on TotS. I've been with TotS since the first month or so and have been aware of PA for about the same.

I got FftD first time around in '83-84 and got hooked immedately. I went on to buy the first 24 books before I got interested in 'other things'.

More recently I bought all the MP books for their Lone Wolf RPG line and I was really excited when they announced the re-publication of the old books.

I've had two classes for the RPG published in Signs and Portents, the Palmyrion Knight of the Shield and the Eruan Pathfinder.

I bought FFtD and FotW when they first game out. I think I was on holiday when I saw them in a bookshop. I guess I was 15 or so.

I joined the LW club. I attended one of Joe Dever's battle days at his house. Photos

I collected the books and the Games Workshop minis. My interest dropped off when I went to college and I sold the books off.

I never quite realised how popular LW had been until Mongoose announced they were producing an RPG, and then I started to collect Mongoose stuff and rebuy the books. I was fortunate enough to meet Joe again at a Mongoose open day and even play in the LW RPG with him. :D

I've had two LW articles published in S&P: the Toranese Archer and 'Boompowder, Treason and Plot'.

I bought the new FFtD at the recent Mongoose open day.

Been a Lone Wolf fan since there has been a Lone Wolf, bought the books as they first came out in my teens, played them, loved them and eventually gave the whole set to a childhood friend who'd also taken a shine to them when we moved away.

Have since re-obtained "some" but they were a lot more difficult to find and more expensive to obtain then.

They didnt get me into fantasy or anything like that, but it did give me more fuel for my imagination at the time when i was running RPGs. (The first fantasy book I read was the hobbit, followed by Gemmel's The King Beyond the Gate).

Well back when I was 10 or 11 I went into WHSmith (a shop that sells stationary, books, film for camera, stuff like that) and saw a lovely looking gamebook on the shelf. It wasn't a Fighting Fantasy book and I'd seen a few of this new series in the shops and it had this big flashy thing on thew cover that said "Gamebook of the year award for 3 years running" (with the years listed).

It was The Caverns of Kalte. I bought it, I took it home, and I absolutely loved it to bits. The writing was so evocative that the world really felt alive. Over the next few years I was able to buy books 8 & 9 and made a friend who had books 2 & 5. Then the I noticed something called Legends of Lone Wolf (glad I never bought and read them) in the bookshops and books beyond book 12. A few years after that they all suddenly disappeared from the bookshops and I couldn't get any more.

I managed to pick up books 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 in car boot sales and eventualy temporarily swapped book 2 for book 4 (we swapped gamebooks a lot) and then we lost contact, as you do.

I recently obtained books 10-12 from another friend and am currently seeking an old copy of book 2 for a sense of completeness :). Since there's a new one coming out soon it's not a major priority but it would be nice.

My first book was also Jungle of Horrors. I was on vacation at my grandmother's house and had no access to other books. Man, that book nearly fell apart.

Now if only the new one would arrive. I can't take the waiting anymore!!! aarrgh!

My Beaver copy of JoH has been used so much the 'inside' page of the Combat Results Table has fallen out! I've still got it, but I'm unsure whether to tape it back in place. Might sound strange, but I've got a block as far as it's concerned and just can't bring myself round to the idea.

I've been a fan since about 1993, and have the Original Series books 1-22 plus all 4 Grey Star and the Magnamund Companion, as well as everything released by Mongoose thus far (though I am still waiting on the new FftD).

Hi all.
Glad to share with you the LW world.
I found PA several years ago while searching on the Internet for LW. And I have joined Mongoose, PA and TotS recently because I found you are a great group of fans.
I met LW when I was 12 or so. I remember my mother buying me the first two books in a bookstore (by that time I owned some books of the serie "Choose your own adventure").
They touched me immediately, I mean, I got fascinated by LW, reading the books every time I could. The "atmosphere" created by JD really envolved me.
Unluckily, I could not get the following books at that time despite the fact I really tried. Later I forget them. Recently, as I am becoming old and start revisiting some of my childness happy moments, I have been able to buy them.
I have read the first books again and, fortunately, I can tell you that the magic is still there.
Of course, I am looking forward to receiving my copy of FftD CE and all the rest of the books.

Thanks for letting me in.

P.S.: Greg your photos are unbelievable!

That's happened to two or three of my older books as well :). I just leave the loose page in the book because it won't fall out (I'm careful with my books) and it won't go all wobbly by being taped in badly or anything.

I have a really old and battered copy of book 2 if you want it. There is a tear on the front cover, the spine is split and half the combat results page is missing. I have a much better copy, but can't bring myself to throw this away. If you want it, its yours.

My first book was Flight from the Dark. I had been reading Choose Your Own adventure books and So You Want to be an Interplanitary Spy books before that and my parents thought it would be more of the same. It wasn't.

Which edition is it? My old one was the red & orange Gary Chalk Vonotar picture on the cover. As I've got a spare old Vonotar miniature I'm in two minds as to which colour scheme to go with (the painted one's in one of them so I'd need to dig it out to check which one I need to do to have them both).
