Interseting new move in Fed ship design on the ADB forum

Da Boss

Mongoose
There is a preview of quite a exciting looking new Ship over on ADB here:

I like it and those that are in favour of more adventureous deisgns it may be worth posting to show your support (or the opposite).

Also may leave the way clear for similar ships for all Empires as they are part of the in universe TV show ;)

Like I posted there, I think that an alternative design squadron box might be interesting.

Say a Fed CA of the new design, a D17, 2 Fed frigates of a new design and 2 Klingon Frigates of a new design. I'd consider buying that box.

Not so sure I'd buy singles of the new design though as they are a radical departure from the standard designs, but they give other folk who think the SFU designs are boring an alternative minis selection. Maybe a whole parallel line of alternative designs (fleet box?) could jumpstart the game among those people who haven't given the game a try because they didn't like the standard SFU designs?

I'm not so sure... proberbly the first fed ship I've seen and not liked the look off, anyone getting the vibe it's the result of a drunken night between the excelsior and intrepid classes?

Not really, seems more like an OCL-era ship pulled put of the museum. Secondary hull doesn't work for me (to many "layers"), but I'm OK with the rest of it.

But remember, this is to let Matthew have fun with a more 'funky' design that isn't neccessarily restrained with all the SFU technology and details limits. As long as it doesn't closely resemble a Movie or TNG era design.

The idea of a different Squadron Box with these more 'exotic designs' that billclo mentioned above may work if enough people express an interest. It might bring in new players who are still put off by the 'old school' look of the traditional minis.

And I'm saying this as a fan of the 'old school' designs.

I'm in the old school crowd on this one.
I flat out don't like it and definitely will not buy one, but if having this available for other people to buy eventually gets me more minis that I do want or gets me more ooponents to play against - Go for it!

Besides, it'll make a good target for my ships when I do go up against one!!! :lol:

Have collected and gamed literally hundreds of star ship designs over the years, even designed, sculpted and cast a few myself, while the TOS ships are of course iconic for me, I always have time, and cash, for a good looking ship. I personally think this basic ship design is excellent, bar one point, the staggered nacelles, they just jar on me. Its possibly not even the staggered look itself it's more the abrupt change over from one cylinder to other. I would like to see how the ship looks with a smoother transition between the two.

I'm liking the saucer section in general and the layout of the phaser nubbins, but I'd also agree that the staggered double engines look a bit weird.

I'm not against the idea of a 4 engined cruiser, in fact a Fed cruiser with the engines laid out like

* *
* *

would be an interesting ship, but I'd change the engines a bit.

Do you have to be signed in on their forums to see pictures??
I don't even see a link to a picture on there.

Could someone post a link directly to the picture??

Thanks.

Doesn't really fit in with the rest of the ships in that fleet...far too stylized and "advanced" looking for what they are doing. I don't like the nacelles. The saucer and secondary hull are interesting, but a radical departure from their current designs.

Thanks Dagretto.
I kinda like it, but not too sure about the stepped nacelles.

How long is the Constitution class model in the "Mongoose" scale??

Thanks.
