Indeed, there are many times where the CG people differed from what the script/JMS called for - for example in Severed Dreams the aft batteries were meant to be pulse weapons and therefore intercepable (hence the worry about the interceptors being down) but the CG team did them as beams as they looked better.

You have to admit, when that aft laser cannon charged up with all those starfuries pealing away as it openned up, it was an amazing looking shot!

Thats something that I always liked about the beam weapons in B5. they were IMPRESSIVE, at least, to my eyes. From the Omegas to the Shadows. The beam weapons always took a secord before they were at full power, like they were pushing out so much energy it took the weapon a moment before it could reach full power. Then, after the massive burst of deadly firepower was done, it tapered off in the same way.
