If nothing else, background for a Merchant campaign

You may have noticed some activity in the Persian Gulf region recently...
Yeah, so, anyway, What's Going on With Shipping is at least a useful source of information and could provide some background color for a Merchant or Fifth Frontier War campaign.

"Too risky to refuel at" is a fairly effective blockade for Traveller. The navy book is literally named after the idea.

It's worth noting that when the strait closes down it doesn't block Saudi oil exports, just slows down transfer rate. They do have pipelines and *CAN* ship through Suez, although with a hot war on, nothing is safe.

Love that channel, Sal is a great source of information. Makes me start thinking of what might happen in an Amber Zone, and the plot hooks that surrounding them.

Jump-1 routes are technically 'straits'. Unless there's a cluster of Worlds that can let a Jump-1 ship bypass the bad star system. Or neighboring Systems have a lot of Drop Tanks.

If one system in a J-1 route is blocked somehow, no Jump-1 Trade can get in or out of that star system. And probably no ships can get Fuel.

Anything Jump-2 or higher could get a foothold going past that one system.
