Hyborias Fallen

here we go another good thread that'll be shut down

Well, I didn't start the name calling. Tell the Aussie grunt to modify the tone and I'll back down. He's just miffed I'm not a Christian and is taking it out on you all too.

Raven, seriously, what exactly do you want? You don't like the rules (your massive thread about sorcery), you don't like the world (because it's politically incorrect and women are not like modern feminists), you don't like the editors (because all they want is porn, porn, porn!) and you don't like the people here (because everyone who disagrees with you is either a fanboy, erotomaniac, jerk or Christian Inquisitor). I'm not judging you, but you sound like one of those "the whole world is against me" people. Calm down.

Ah you again. Charmless and tactless as always.

What Mongoose wants to focus on about the Conan world though is up to it. The endless worlds, new vistas and adventures- that's the stuff I like. Soft core porn can be had without tacking on Conan material though- just visit any tatty 'bookstore' near you.
Sure, but the stuff you personally don't like is a part of the setting, and some would argue it's part of what makes the Hyborian world unique. Obviously nobody wants to see the game turn into trash, but there doesn't seem to be any danger of that. It can be a bit of a balance, but I think it's been done very well so far.

Ah, there's that lovely friendly tone. Flame bait elsewhere jackboot.
I'm sorry? You are all but accusing Vincent of writing trashy porno, and I'm the one flaming?

No I was thinking something a little less wholesome- chains, black leather and piercings perhaps. Of course these days that'd likely go over well. Mongoose take note! Make Conan hipper for the young crowd. 8)
I'm sure you've seen many fantasy barbarians wearing next to nothing, that was my point. As for the rest, whatever floats your boat honey... ;)

Well, I didn't start the name calling.
Sorry, I missed where I did that. Could you quote it for me?

My dear, I haven't been to church for almost 20 years, so you can believe me when I say my responses are based on what you write and not what I think of you personally. 8)

You're suddenly more reasonable- last time we talked off line you got pretty insulting about my views, so I countered in similiar style. If you can play nice in public, I can.

But I still don't like to be called 'Honey' or "Sweety', got it?

I am accusing Mongoose trying to make Vincent write trash, but feel his skill is such that he can didge the bullet on this. That's why i haven't posted anything on Temptresses and won't until I read it for myself.

I don't like some rules, some of the world, the editors I judge by policy and some people by their opinion. I like the basic system, like the idea of variant humans, feel that the sorcery system is underdeveloped as opposed to wrong, find the unmodified Hyboria world a little confining, Vincent's a decent person by all accounts and with the exception of people like Sutek and taylor and whathisname's Ghost can get along with most people here. I mean I produce shareware gaming material for three threads and a mailing list for anyone who wants it whether they agree with me or not and can have a good conversation 80-90% of the time. It's just that if someone starts something I won't be the one who breaks off the conflict first.

As for what I want- that's a pointless question. What we want is meaningless. What we can get is more important.

Ah, you remember me! How nice!

Although I don't want to pour oil into flames, I feel compelled to state my opinion in a syllogism:

1. The CONAN RPG is modelled after REH's vision of Hyboria.
2. REH's envisioned Hyboria as a racist and sexist age.

Ergo: The CONAN RPG should portray Hyboria as a racist and sexist age.

It's a question of staying true to REH.

Well I keep Hyboria as sexist and racist- it's just I don't make it so damn lurid. Non-Hyborian and Female PCs have a rougher time of it and are given the s*** work by a lot of NPCs. There are brothels and prostitutes but since they really serve no purpose to the plot of most stories I don't dwell on them or detail tham and nonoe of my PCs are the type to make use of their services. They are more interested in the actual plot and story.

you must share those adventures one day raven 8) but raven has only done what I had to do to run my very long and much loved in house slaine campain I add stuff,I take stuff away being intreasted in anicent myth it is more high than low celtic but it is still slaine.

same as ravens conan but unlike raven I dont share as much as she does and the ideas she has are brilliant so please be nice 8) :D

While true, Mongoose has the option to accentuate some aspects over others. For example, why accentuate the sexism when they could accentuate the strong female characters REH used such as Belit or Red Valeria ?

Mad Dog

From what I have read over history and ancient history in particular is that people are not so much racist as in the color of their skin but rather the country they are from.

Not to say its not there but a Brythunian could be prejudice against someone from Nemedia simply due to the borders.

Mad Dog, they do have a decent representation as far as REH had on Strong woman. It's just that they are a minority, and so are represented as such. And the temptress I see a cleopatra like strong female character. Sex and seduction have influenced the decisions men make since the beginning of time. It may not be PC, the Femme's might not like it, and unattractive women may hate this fact, but it's still works today and it always will.

Proven Facts, 90% of elected presidents look better than there opponent. Cleopatra influenced and ultimately destroyed Two leaders of Rome through sex and beauty. Better looking people earn promotions more often than less attractive rivals, General Custer is an example, as there were better qualified rivals who were passed up. Alexander the Great was continuously influenced by those he felt attractive. And on, and on, and on.

In fact I am amazed at how Mongoose has dealt with this genere, when I first heard about it I thought they would handle it with kiddie gloves. Kudo's to Mongoose! :D

but if it was Vincent's decision (as opposed to some corporate big-wig) to make this class I trust he made it because it's appropriate for Hyboria, and not to sell a few extra books.

Actually it was me who made the first suggestion for a temptress class, based primarily on it being something that was obviously lacking to date. I don't think I qualify as a corporate big-wig though!

LOL. I'll have you know all this hair is my own!

@Mongoose Old Bear, I am glad you made the suggestion as I think it fits nicely in the game. My wife is interested in trying Conan now...

It just goes to show that not every one has the same opinion on what is fun to play, my wife found the class as something she can relate to, especially when added to Noble or other class. So I just have to say thank you for addition.

I'd love to hear how she likes the class!
