[HOWTO] Fight Cloaked Romulans as the Federation

On the first turn move within 18" of one of their ships, preferably their lead ship. If you didn't need to all power to engines to do this, launch suicide shuttles with all your ships and only fire phasers. Fire everything in your fleet at one ship, you probably won't do much damage, but you won't be taking any either.

Every turn after that, move back 4 inches and launch suicide shuttles with all ships while focusing on one ship. Keep the suicide shuttles about 8 inches in front of your fleet and don't forget that they move after ALL ships have moved.

In about 4 turns the Romulans will be in range to uncloak and fire plasma torpedoes, this will probably hurt so boost shields or intensify defensive fire to taste, then swarm them with shuttles. By this point you will have about 4 times your total number of ships in suicide shuttles acting as a minefield.

interesting idea, this would probably work for those of us who dont have drones and kinda of a poor mans drone. (i play Gorn)

It works even better if you do have drones. You can't fire drones at cloaked ships, but the turn they de-cloak they have to split their defensive fire between drones and shuttles, or in the case of the gorn, plasma torpedoes and shuttles.

Gorn do have lots of shuttles :!:

Gorns have a lot of Plasma-Fs that can Carronade as well. Every Gorn ship has two Fs that gives 4AD of multihit 2 Carronades that ignore the stealth save. Plus they are direct fire so can do that shield penetrating thang

Use a pair of DDs or BDDs as sub hunters, park on a ships back at 4" and play. If he de-cloaks you can run using your agility and you still have the Gs ready. Carronades don't need to be reloaded giving you 2 SS, 8AD of multihit 2 carronade and 6 or 7 Phaser-1s inside the kill zone.

Aside from the cruisers and up the Roms mostly have 12 damage, it doesn't take too many hits though to cripple one

Just watch out for that decloak jump behind you

I can't wait to surprise my Romulan opponent with carronaded plasma F's on my Bismarck BCF.

"Oh look he's getting close to try and get in killzone with his phaser 3's - whatever - hey wait, what are those?!"

I really do think you need to get within 2" to make those carronades useful because they don't have guided and thus are subjected to the -1 to hit for long range between 2" and 4". Booo.
