How to start Abbai?

So, the 2nd Ed. is arriving and I'm planning on starting an Abbai-only fleet (and also because I got my hands on an old fleet box this weekend=) ).

I can presently field:

6 Bimith Defenders
8 Tiraca/Shiary Frigates
2 Milanie Carriers + Fighters

What can I do with these ships? I didn't get my 2ed Fleetbook until now, so do not know what has changed. And also, what about the Yuyaca DN and Lakara Cruiser? Are they still any good in 2nd? What would be a good 5 pts. Raid fleet?

Apart from the interceptors changing and the shields trait being added, the weapons and stats on the Juyaca are pretty much the same as 1e, and speaking as someone who has had to face them a few times, they are a prick to kill.

The Lakara I'm not so sure about, any fight in the campaign I'n in that was big enough for the abbai player to field Lakaras he's skipped em and gone straight for the Juyaca instead.

I'm in the process of finishing a 5pt raid abbai and have gone for

1 Lakara
1 Bimith
2 Milani + fighters (woohoo 8 flights of kothas)
3 Tiraca
1 Shakira

Its probably not the most combat effective combination, but I like collecting fleets as well as playing, and this list lets me do that.

I would like to say, i have faced the juyaca 4 times, 4 times it has whooped me big time. and we are talking CRUSHED me, it has anhialated EA, Pak, Brakiri twice. I have never got it below 50% damage :-(
even swarming it with 12 fighters didn't do the job. stupid ship!

I'd add a single Juyaca and a couple of Milani Carriers to that mix and you have a good, solid basis for about a 5 FAP Battle PL fleet. Other than that, maybe a Shyarie for Scout if you want (but I wouldn't get more than one unless playing vs Minbari) and play a few games to get a feel for their tactics.

I think you're a bit light on the Abbai ships with more firepower. At most I'd take 1 Bimith and 1 Lakara or 2 Bimiths to free up points for Milanis and Patrol PL choices.

Maybe something like:

1 Lakara
1 Bimith
2 Milani
3 Tiraca
1 Shyarie

I know you have a number of Bimith models but under the current stats is a specialty support ship. Never field more than one or you lose out on guns too much.

Your opponents will also likely all have interceptors now days (fighters filling in where not blessed with their own) so expect to have to rely more heavily on beam dice to get the job done.

Good luck and let us know how you do, a lot of us from the old school of abbai are suffering a bit of 'new design' shock. We'd love to hear some success stories about the girls.
