Homemade counters. (UPDATE G'Vrahn)

AF measuers to the edge of FIGHTER bases but still from the stem of the ship doing the firing. Personally I would say that you could rule that a fighter in base contact is automatically considered to be in 2" range regardless of the actual base size (thus neatly solving the problem)

Na-po all the answers in that thread (and the rule for that matter) are refering specifically to the FIGHTER miniature/base/counter. All measurements to/from fighters for any reason are take to the base/conter. All measurements for SHIPS for any reason are from the stem.

A fighter is in AF range if the edge of its base is within 2" of the stem of the ship shooting at it. I don't think I can put it much more clearly than that!

These look absolutely lovely!! Nice to see the T'Rakk, G'Vrahn and the T'Loth in matching ship colours. Would like to the Rongoth and G'Karith in matching colours too!!! I amgoing to do my best to scale them using the printer percentage print off. Look Great though, keep the great work up!!! 8)

Ok which means if the counter(or base) is more than 4 wide it can't use its AF since you measure from the center dot (stem) of your ship to the edge of the fighter. But in this case most of the fighters can't fire also, it seems weird.

I like this idea of "automaticaly" in range if in base contact, sounds good.

Thanks.

Ah but your overlooking the key point which is that fighters are allowed to overlap ship bases. The point of AF is that they only work at the range when a fighter can fire its weapons and only specialist attack fighters with missiles or torpedoes can outrange it. Ship bases dont really come into fighter combat at all unless your dealing with stealth:

The problem someone was bringing up earlier is that a few fighters with this longer range could in theory be counted as ignoring stealth due to 'point blank range' and yet out of AF range (and for that matter standard fighter gun range) if the target has a particularly large base (in practice though this wont ever happen since even the big flight stands are less than 2" diameter, it could only crop up if someone made a really freakin huge counter :P

on the subject of counters - any reason the Warlock (a war level ship) has a different sized counter in the rule book to the other war level ships? :)

who knows, in actual counters its like the other warships in size. probably just another counter cockup, after all at one point in the rulebook a bin'tak was called an octurion.

Ok now I see everything, thanks.
I often play minbari .... so I should use counters as small as posssible

So the point is saying if you're 'point blank' and so ignoring stealth you should be under AF whatever the distance between the edge of the fighter and the stem of the ship. (just a way to avoid ignoring both stealth and AF).
