Just to let all loyal citizens know, the first details and front cover of Paranoia: High Programmers has just been posted on the web site.

I thought the Troubleshooter and IntSec covers were pretty solid, but that's awesome. The first two were competent comedy sf, without looking especially Paranoia-ish (IMHO) but the High Programmer one really gives off an in-game vibe.

UV play has been experimented at least since the Toothpaste Disaster, which I believe Gareth participated in, so I'm interested to see how all that experience is codified into the book. From the blurb it reads a little "Violet play from Extreme Paranoia, only more so" which is fine in itself, but can Mongoose give me a reason to buy the new book and not just use my Black Missions PDF of Extreme?

Oh, Matt I'm a huuuuuge fan can you sign this for me?
"I hereby agree to bring out a White Washes special edition of High Programmers: ___________________________"

Worth a try. ;)

Never let it be said we don't listen :)

For various boring reasons, such books cannot go on general release - but, talking about this round the office this morning, we _can_ do extremely limited runs for mail order. So. . .

A little later today, we'll be announcing the Blue Line and White Washes limited editions of Internal Security and High Programmers. These will be strictly limited to just 100 copies each, and can only be grabbed from the Mongoose web site.

Danforth, White Washes is such a good name for the High Programmers book, we just can't top that :) In recognition for your stirling work in the greater glory of Alpha Complex, drop me a line at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com, with your postal address. You get a White Washes book for free.

Today was the day I got my broadband reconnected, after six weeks on dialup. I was in a damned good mood, and figured the day couldn't possibly get any better. It just did :D

I see the books have gone up on the site! Quick note: the additional copy on the White Washes page says "White Washes is the limited edition version of Internal Security" instead of "High Programmers". The excitement leading to this copy/paste errorette is justified. I'm pretty stoked myself.

Sorted :)

So, High Programmers / White Washes will ship in January. Do we have a more specific shipping date yet? Can't wait to get my copy :)

I see the release date has indeed become more specific: it now says February :-/

I'm sure it will be all the more satisfying when I finally get ahold of it, like a fine wine :)

Hi guys,

Just to let you know, High Programmers is all complete - we are just waiting for final approval!

Is High Programmers a self contained set of rules?

I say this as someone who's just purchased the Special Edition Troubleshooters anyway, but I'm just thinking about the best way to buy into High Programmers. If it's basically a supplement for high powered games, I may just get it as a PDF (it's a lot cheaper!).

I do like the concept though - and I could go for the White Washes edition, if it's still around when I next check my bank balance!

Yes, High Programmers is self-contained, independent and free-standing, a completely new game cover to cover. (Well, it does adapt some of the service firms from the 2004 PARANOIA rulebook.) The system is almost entirely new, with only cosmetic similarities to the existing Troubleshooter and Internal Security rules. The closest similar systems are probably Amber Diceless Roleplaying and Nobilis, but that said, High Programmers is highly original in approach and effect.

Hmmm...I'll just have to make another check of my bank balance...

Incidentally, Paranoia is now ranked No.10 in RPG.net's Core Products list. Making it part of a 'Holy Trinity' of games (along with Call of Cthulhu and Pendragon) that is 25 years old or more, but still in the Top 10 of "RPG.Net Darling" status.

LBH

I queried a Mongoose staffer the other day, and apparently we're looking at the middle of February. Blue Line came in before regular IntSec, so maybe we White Washes order-holders will get our book before the rabble :)

Ooooh lookie, preview is up! http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/parahppre.pdf
