High Guard: Naval College

Hi Guys,
I think I must be missing something, what is the point of going to Naval College?

I get the same skills and and a similiar probabilityof success and of promotion/commission as if I go straight into the service i desire?

If I go to the naval college, I lose the muster benefit, nor do i get any events/mishaps and I have to do a term as a "Crewman" in the navy of my choice?

I get the flavour of the Crewman tour, and also given most of the previous service requirements, i would have to do the crewman tour anyway... What am I missing?

Refelecting the fact the plebe has had no life for the last four years, the graduate of a naval college is better trained than that of his colleuges in the service.

The graduate may take the effect of the roll for graduation, as additional skills points and spend this on service skills from Crewman or their College, with a maximum of "1" in any skill.

Honours Graduates gain a +4 DM on promotion as a Crewman and in joining their chosen career after their mandatory tour as a Crewman, if they are able to join their chosen career path at the end of their first tour as a crewman. (e.g. you are a fast track officer who has proven themselves both in the class room and in the fleet, if you fail promotion in the first tour, you need additional time in adjusting from the "Academy to real Naval Operations")

Nice house rule though!

Makes it possible to play a crew of young Naval College graduates right out of the Acadamy and not have them all with Level 0 skills. They could actually DO something.

lol sorry that's what i think the text "should" read but i think Mongoose had an ink shortage and forgot to actually print it :)

This seems to be a teeny-weeny issue all over this otherwise excellent tome. I agree, as is there is no point whatsoever going to the academy; your fix is a good one, though. :)
