High Guard character creation example clarification needed

Hello,

I am confused by the character creation example in High Guard. On pg. 40 under the First Term it states:

He distinguishes himself and wins his commission.

And then:

....gains Melee 1 from being a rank 1 officer and Leadership 1 from being a rank 2 officer.

Now, the first term was spent being a crewman with a successful commission roll. How does this character become a rank 2 officer during that same term?

Is this an error or is there something I'm missing?

Could happen if you get commissioned and a promotion in the same term.

Thanks. I now see that some events grant an automatic promotion or commission. I think the example is just wrong. It implies that a commission and an advancement roll was made in the same term. There is no mention of an event that gave this character a promotion.[/quote]
