If a character with the 1e skill Engineer (Naval) rolled exceptional success in designing a starship, how would you reward them?

For 2e rules I have have renamed the skill Profession: Naval Architect BTW if anyone is interested.

I have never played in a game where a character was in the position to design a whole ship by them selves. But if I did ever have such a thing I might turn to the quirk table for some ideas. Maybe the maintenance is so easy it drops the monthly cost by X% or maybe the ship is so effective the fuel needed is reduced. :D

I would penalise them if they did not make sure that they did?

Standard designs that have been refined for centuries, or even millennia, should be better than anything a single engineer can slap together in a few months.

It's hard to demonstrate brilliance, except by abstraction.

Since you don't want to unbalance the game, it could be similar to a quirk on a custom built ship, and can't be applied to a class.

On the other hand, bad designs can be duplicated.
