Help with Vorlon Agent.

To make them a Vorlon Servant, they would have to go to the Vorlon home world for at least a month for the Genetic Engineering to take place that is necessary.

{Don't have access to the PrC}

Is it really necessary to go back to the Vorlon homeworld (why does it never get named?) to create a Vorlon Servant?

I understand that a number of humans had to be brought back to perfect the Telepath conversion techniques but that once they knew how to do it all the Telepaths that the Vorlons released on Earth were created in Antarctica without ever leaving Earth.

Is the 'downtime' part of the description of the PrC or is it colour that has been added for this thread?

We don't have the book, yet, and it may have a significant impact on the campaign, what with one absentee away training in Tuzanor, we might simply not play B5 for several weeks and restart after everyone is finished with their 'radiation accidents'.

Obviously I'd rather have hot lead dripped into my eye-sockets than not play for a month....

It seems yes on "Visiting" the Vorlon home world. Lyta did and so did Sebastian, so did Angela (don't have Psi Corps book with me) had to go to the VHW.

Character downtime is not the same as not playing (just time passes rapidly), maybe the player only really misses 1 session. Maybe the rest of the characters end up having to chart a star system, that is on the Rim or scout out an enemy (without getting caught) and they do, and it takes a while for them to be exchanged as prisoners

Why don't we call it "Kosh". After all, they are all Kosh.

~Irrelevant~

Kosh in response (other than silence) to what is the Vorlon homeworld's name. :) :)

On a more serious note (couldn't resist), Genetic Engineering is not an overnight process.

It is easier with a fetus as every 24 hours the cells duplicate (that is why you see some fetus' in tanks near Lyta in her memory). In an adult, it depends on which part of the body needs modification as to how long it will take. Skin takes 30 days as an example. When Dr. Franklin mentions that her anemia (Iron defisecy) that is cured when she comes back would take up to 90 to replace the Spleen. Now just an adjustment to the organ will not take as long as to replace it cell by cell. It would still take several weeks.

Have to wonder how long it takes to add gills (that don't show up on a Medical Scan)?

How do you know that they didn't show up and Lyta 'encouraged' Dr. Franklin to ignore them? ;)

Actually one of the listed things for the servants is that their modifications don't show up ... the Vorlons are that good.

To the original poster. I f your player has already done something that would attract attention ... good. If he hasn't then I say (without telling him) offer him one chance. Create an adventure that with creativity on the the players part could attract the attention of a Vorlon ... then let it happen. If he (in your opinion fails) have him watched awhile ... maybe he does better later.

The player/character has taken an interest in the events unfolding in the universe around him, with regards to the Shadowsouled/Shadows, and having been in contact with Delenn about a few things, I think that I have a ok reason to have the Vorlons take an interest.

Not sure about having him sit out a session or two, that seems a little unfair to the player but I have a few ideas from this thread. Thanx.

Just checked the entry on gill implants in the core rulebook, they cost 1800 credits, are painfull to use and are limited to one alternate atmosphere type. no other info on them.

However, those are not Vorlon implants. I thought about the same things since they are listed in the core book. Lyta never seemed to be in pain when she used them, so the Vorlon version are an obvious improvement in that department. She also seemed to use them in more than 1 type of atmosphere, I can't remember where...and of course let's not forget that she didn't pay for them  ...except with her services

I was chatting with other B5 fans atthe ACTA tournament and commented that Mongoose haven't done source books for the TV movies yet. There'd have to be more about telepathy and being a Vorlon Agent in any Thirdspace book.

Not to mention the Vorlon "mistakes".

On a side note, is the Shadow Agent prestige class (not servant) available anywhere?

The 'mistakes' might fit more into the Vorlon/Shadow book itself. but since I'll be buying them all I guess it doesn't matter much to me either way.

Finally got a chance to look at the PrC.

How do you tell a Vorlon you've changed your mind?

On the other thread there was some comments about the stats for Montessa King in the Psi Corps.

It was suggested that she didn't have enough abilities for her level.

On actually seeing the PrC it is apparent that she has one too many and that her P rating is also wrong. She should be a P12 but she's listed as a P13.

I don't want to come across as uncool but I have to wonder if that PrC was play-tested at all. It doesn't much look like anyone that has actually played a teep has had any input at all.

For example a Level 10 Defender gets to use Mind Shield at a P15 level.

Which is, of course, much better than using it at a P5 level....

It's been said before that sometimes the pregen NPCs are better or different from what you can build in the rules. Sometimes it's just because the writers wanted tham that way, usually for a reason.

We had a similar discussion about the Bester stats a while back.

I agree, a similar discussion was had about Lyta. Lyta is an NPC with certain special abilities. The Vorlon Servant PrC is modelled on Lyta but isn't as powerfull.

Makes sense. I'm inclined to go with the 'Harlequin' model where major NPC's that are pretty much invincible don't get stats (like Kosh). That way if the PC's go up against them they just lose. There is no opportunity to 'just get lucky' or to find out what the stats are and come up with a cunning plan. You just lose. No save, no Magic Resistance, no F all.

The point I'm trying to make is not that Vorlon Servants aren't as powerful as Lyta, it's that they aren't as powerful as Telepaths that haven't been augmented by the Vorlons. Many of their abilities make no sense. By which I mean in the same way as ' Conan slurped the blueness which snurfgurdled the sun pink fish goat mandiak. Flibble.' doesn't make sense.

The phrase ' Gains the use of Mind Shield at P level 15 ' means nothing. It means the author has never played a Telepath or hadn't slept in a week and didn't get the text proofread by a play-tester.

Montessa King is the Monitor for Earth. She is intended to be a powerful NPC. The text indicates she is concerned about being caught and killed by the Shadows or their agents but makes it clear she shouldn't have anything to fear from lesser mortals.

Take her stats and create an equal level Psi Cop. She should be able to make mincemeat of such a character. She is the Monitor for Earth. A Vorlon Augmented Telepath that is about 200 years old.

She'll last two rounds if she's lucky.

Bester would twist her head off and use it as a chamber pot.

As an attack of opportunity....

What is her fatal flaw?

It's the 7 levels of the rubbish Prestige Class she's been lumbered with. She wouldn't be much worse off if she'd taken 7 levels of Worker.

On Montessa King, Gar admitted that she should be a P14, and have a few more Telepathic abilities since her levels in both Telepath and Vorlon Servant would allow her more.

I agree with you whole-heartedly about the play-tested and teep players :!:

I have been re-watching the series and there are so many mistakes in the RPG.

I just watched Episode 1 Season 3 today and did a verbatim transcript of the opening scene:

Sheridan: "Ambassador. Last week after you saved my life I didn't really get a chance to thank you properly. I've tried to reach you since then, but you haven't answered my calls. Is everything alright?"

Kosh: "Being seen by so many at once was a great strain. I returned to my ship to rest."

Doesn't sound like Kosh is that invincible to me....

Vorlons have High Tech, and are long lived, but not invincible....

A verbatim conversation from Episode 1 Season 3 shows that it only took about 2 weeks to go through the change process that Lyta went through:
1 month from the time she left
minus travel time to Mars
minus time to find a Pilot
minus travel time from Mars to the Vorlon Empire
minus 3 days waiting with the pilot
minus 5 days in the Lifepod

Lyta: "So when I left here a month ago, I found a ship willing to carry me to the border of the Vorlon Empire. He wouldn't go any closer than that."

Garibaldi: "Smart man. No ship entering Vorlon space has ever come back."

Lyta: "Ever since I made contact with Ambassador Kosh, I've been called there. I knew they'd let me in.

Sheridan: "And did they?"

Lyta: "Not at first. We help position for 3 days beaming a signal into their territory. No answer. Finally the pilot got nervous, wanted to come back. I gave him the last of my money in exchange for the life pod. He left me there with 5 days of air, food and water. The signal wasn't doing any good so I tried sending a telepathic call out in every direction. 5 days later I was lying on the floor, last of my air almost gone, when a ship came along side. I must have passed out at that point. The next thing I remember, I was on the Vorlon home world."

This conversation between Lyta and Dr. Franklin shows that she probbly has the Endurance Feat now as well as others.

Dr. Franklin: "Interesting."

Lyta: "What?"

Dr. Franklin: "I did a medical profile on you just before you left. You've been through a lot since then. Oxygen deprivation, stress, fatigue, but according to the scanners you're in better health than when you left. Hell, according to this file, this is the best shape you've been in for 5 years.

Lyta: smiles big, "I think you are exaggerating just a little doctor."

Dr. Franklin: "Yeah? According to your record you have a chronic iron deficiency, it's a congenital condition...IT'S GONE! Your enlarged appendix is now normal sized. And a slight hiatial hernia has somehow fixed itself! I'd love to know how you did it!"

Lyta: "I'd love to tell you, but I honestly don't have any idea about what you are talking about. Look...I'd love to stay and chat, but I have really got to unpack and get to work. Based on your examination is there any reason why I can't do that?"
