He lives on a Special Circumstances GCU called 'I Suppose You Think That's Funny' (Gravitas class, natch), but 'Deepest, Darkest Herts' is a good one. Like it.
It would be difficult, I guess, to run a campaign _outside_ of SC involvement or excluding GCU's.

Is it d100/BRP/RQ rules, at all?

It was a full-on Ringworld RPG campaign from about 11 years ago. Characters were SC operatives analysing Known Space for potential inclusion in the Culture. They got wind of the Ring when they accidentally annihilated an ARM cruiser and picked up the survivors, which included the said kzin (a prisoner). Eventually the kzin joined SC, under the guidance of Diziet Sma and Skaffen Amstikaw and they journeyed off to the Ringworld to generally cause havoc (which, naturally, they did, being SC).

Huge amounts of fun.

That sounds a hell of a lot like Iain M Banks. Are the two milieu the same?

It is. I'm a huge Banks fan.

No, they're VERY different milieus, but it was great fun to blend them together. One of the great things about The Culture and SC in particular is its ability to hijack cultures from a distance, get it spectacularly wrong, then deny all culpability. Mixing that in with Niven's Known Space was very enjoyable because they are such separate backgrounds.

It worked pretty well, but involved a lot of fudging. I never got to integrate a Puppeteer into the mix, but the SC kzin was a belly-laugh.

Anyhow, this is threadjacking....

I had another question, but I think I lost track of it somewhere in the other posts, so I throw open this thread for threadjacking, though if you have any help for a gm new to the system, please add it in.

That's good of you - do repost the question, though and I'm sure you'll get a reply! Funnily enough, though, Loz's example shows what you can do with the system and how flexible it is.

Sorry.

I have used some of the Slayers Guides in my generic fantasy BRP game and they added a lot of flavor. The conversion is a snap, the only thing you have to make a judgement on is SIZ. In general I just used POW in place of WIS, although that does not always fit. Which answers the second question, no you don't have to use Glorantha, you can use any setting published or homegrown. The big thing about D20 stuff is SIZ, POW and things like feats. It takes a little practice to translate a 10th level character to BRP (or MRQ, doubtless) and wind up with something with the same feel. The only D20 material I have tried to do it with are a couple of Slayers Guides. At least the stats are similar enough to use as is in most cases. D100 use has the advantage of greater granularity than D20, a smoother scaling of critical levels and easier to read critical in the case of MRQ. You might want to pick up Stormbringer 5 while it is still available, as it has arguably the best implementation of combat for BRP that has been done. A lot of the options would enhance MRQ combat.
