Have Rules, No Stats...

its of course worth noting that we have no damn idea about how the PLA actually fights, since they havent fought a conventional war since.. well... a long time ago

Heh, at the end of the film "Trinity and Beyond" it shows a great piece of footage of Chinese cavalry galloping into a mushroom cloud, complete with gas masks for the horses. It's really something to see.

hey...I am just saying that the way the PLA faction was promoted by Mongoose...is not the way it looks like it is going to play out on the game board...

I do trust that the Type99 will have a main gun anti-aircraft ability...

Points values are a poor substitute for an interesting scenario. Especially once people get over the "my army must win at all costs" junk.
Quite true. A good point value system is an excellent way to make scenarios though. I hate playing only meeting engagements where both sides have equal point values and no one is the attacker or defender. A point value system lets you gauge relative force strengths without having to play a couple dozen games. That way you can create a lopsided scenario without making it a no-win situation for the smaller force.

A /good/ points system is a helpfull guideline to get started by.

Unfortunately, most games dont have good points systems. Time will tell on this one (and the cries of "broken" that always follow ;) )

Now, dont get me wrong, Im not saying they shouldnt have a points system or something. It helps those that want it, and those that dont can just ignore it. But in relation to "realism" they shouldn't be taken into account, since they are there for tournament play purposes

Prepare for dissapointment

If that was in response to Zarr's question about the type 99's AAA ability, all it has to be is added by Mongoose in a S&P article, right? Isn't the 9M119 Refleks (AT-11 Sniper) basically a special ammo that is tossed out of the end of the 125mm gun tube?

*shrugs* I'm doubious about tank guns fring AAA weapons myself...

Well, I don't know enough about them to even think about being dubious, but if I'm a low-flying chopper and know a tank might have these, I might think twice about hovering in one spot for any time. It would be fun to be behind a chopper that is hovering under a hilltop rise, waiting to pop up and strike. This would be a perfect setup for this kind of weapon, even though it's unlikely to be rewarded with the opportunity to use it. In other words, it might not be a fantastic weapon but I'm very sure the chopper drivers are quite aware of its existance.

BuShips thinks of WW2 German 88mm in all of its variants...

Yeah, I know it's not like that gun could be in one vehicle and switch from tank-killing and shoot down a B-17, I know...

not on a tank mount it's not, BuShips. On an artillery mount maybe, but in a tank turret?

Heh, I just edited my comment before seeing yours in real time and added my second comment, lol.

why would'nt the Mongoose BFEvo Type99 have the ability that it has in real life...

http://www.sinodefense/army/tank/type99.asp

wait...oh no...here it comes...not...GAME BALANCE!...

the game balance argument is cop out for...rushed game design...and a lack of proper game testing...games can be accurate and balanced...

*reads up on it and looks at Zarr* It's a guided anti-tank missile....made on license from the Russians..... and can be used on helicopters out to a range of 5 km. Not exactly what one would call 'Anti-Air', Zarr.

Since any chopper on the table will be operating in a gunship support kinda role, I'd imagine just about any weapon on the table will be capable of fire against them. So untill we see the actual helicopter rules, who knows

Please try to remember also that the US and other western nations have tank munitions which are also designed to kill helos (proximity detonation, namely the MPAT, as well as a few others).

Also that the barrel launched missle system is *not* an anti-air system, it is an anti-tank system, laser guided at that.

Now the CV90 series DOES have an anti-air ballistic computer to engage air targets, but that's still not a main role for the vehicle, merely a perk.
