this is an exact copy of a mongoose mini !!!!

thoughts ?

Rebel Minis have worked with and got stuff from Mongoose in the past - I mean, they bought up the whole Mighty Armies line....so mabe other stuff went as well.

As far as I'm aware this is legit.

Also Rebel Minis didn't buy the entire Mighty Armies line, just most of it.

At best this is SST miniatures coming back under license most likely with no rules.

At worse this is a massive screw up with serious legal consequences.

Edit: I sent a polite email about it in case they were not aware, hopefully I will get an answer in a while and post it up here.

Below is an email conversation between myself and the company, back to front so start on the bottom. Minor edits have taken place to conceal my own personal info:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, below is the link to the thread I mention so you can keep an eye on it to protect your own company's interests if need be:

Hi,

Sure, no problem. We have not really announced our 28mm Sci-Fi line but I think that will be ok. Just let everyone know we only have the rights to non-Sony IP and we are changing the Tin Can head and arms…. That will keep people from going “Cool, when are they releasing the Tankers!"

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for being a nosey busybody :) Totally understandable with Sony. I hope to see more in this line in future in the same spirit of the models you already have.

Regards,

PS: Would you be okay if I posted this information up on the Mongoose forums as other people asked? It is 'No' thats cool, and I won.t

Hi,

We are aware

We bought the non- Sony IP molds from Mongoose. If you look, we put new heads on the Valonians and the bugs we have were created by Mongoose and were not part of the Sony license. The Tin can is getting a new Head and weapons soon. When we did the deal with Mongoose we did not realize the model had a brief appearance in the Cartoon.

We love SST but we don’t want to do anything to upset Sony.

Thank you for the email.

Mike

To whom it may concern:

I saw your sci fi sculpts of 'Space bugs', the 'tin can' and 'Valonians'. I was a big fan of the SST miniatures game, and enthusiastically hoping you are bringing it back in some shape or form. If not, and you have no idea what I am talking about, be warned that those miniatures were done by Mongoose under license. Assuming you were unaware of this, it is something to be careful with. Personally, I would like to see your company add to this particular section of your catalogue and grow, as I would certainly like to add to my old dusty collections.

Regards,

I just saw this so I will post. :D
We did aquire some of the old molds from Mongoose. We are only allowed to make the non-Sony IP stuff(or the stuff that Mongoose Created). Some of the other lines we are required to change heads or parts so that it does not conflict with the Sony IP.

The Chas is my fault. I was not aware of the character in the cartoon so when the painter put the model together, I was not aware if he was using the new head and arms or not. Now I know and I am having the tech guys take the image down. I emailed the painter about getting the right model up. Sorry :)

That being said.. I can answer any questions :)

Are there any plans to make sci fi humans in various flavours of heavy and or powered armour, along with expanded aliens?

Yes, we have humans we are working on and some initial power armor designs. We are waiting on some sculptors right now, but should see something soon.
