Hand Signals

While waiting on the rules and building miniatures, we have been talking about how to organize the party.

I think that when "in game" during combat players should limit conversations to waht their characters could actually say in the situation.

Now since we do not know whether Spellcom eyepieces allow psychic communication (And if there are times that the enemy might be able to detect that and one would need to enforce Spellcom silence) if the party is being sneaky, using hand signals would make sense. Players are often "being quiet" and then saying tons of stuff. "I see two of them one might be a mage, Bob you take him down and I'll go after the other one"

It would be fun roleplaying to use handsignals when the team is silenced.

This page has a list of modern US army signals, The ones about ammo and the like may not be useful.
Plus you'd need to add a few for a fantasy setting. Here are some suggesations

Hand up, Wiggling fingers "Magic User"
Two fingers up together as if giving a benidiction "Cleric"
Two fingers on either sider of mouth pointing up like tusks "Orcs"
Hand held palm downard with wriggling fingers "Spiders or giant bugs"
Hand held out with wrist limp "Elves"
Hand held in claw fashion with fingers slowly gripping and releasing "Undead"

Hand held at shoulder height in fist and then brought down in front with hand opening as if tossing something "Roll initiative, suckers!"

I actually quite like that idea, though I am not sure how it would work in practice :) Perhaps someone fancies a crack at an S&P article?

This is an interesting idea. I can't see my group doing it, they babble too much. I think they'd explode if they couldn't talk.

I'm suddenly picturing the elf players giving you the extending hand, with raised middle finger single. :)

Nah, elves tend to signal with several feathered shafts to the eye sockets!

A small spoiler: The omnilens lets you whisper to your team, of course you could be heard by soldiers nearby. You could let your teammates "look" through your Point of View through the crystal.

Oh and the setting information in this book Rocks!
